UCF Dorms

I know there have been posts about the dorms before but some are outdated and the dorms could have been remodeled or whatever since then.
I have already been accepted for Fall 2012 and will be taking a visit in 2 weeks, but I like to hear about the school from people that have gone there, you can only get so much of a feel for the dorm during a 30 minute tour ): As long as I like what I see at the tour, UCF will be my top choice (close to home and in a good area for nursing).

So which ones are the best/worst (explain please). As a parent, which did your S/D like and kind of explain their personality please. Also, should I stay off campus seeing as I live about and 1hr 15mins away from campus. Thanks so much for any help!

I got in for fall too but I’ve been going there for years to visit friends. Towers are the newest building and are like any standard apartment. Decent sized. Hercules/Nike dorms are second best in my opinion as the are second newest, offer double and single rooms and is located by the gym and pool. Everything else is remodeled and up to date. Nothing like the crappy UF ones!

My daughter lived in Nike during the summer of her Freshman year and liked it a lot. It is close to the pool and rec center and really nice. She has lived in the Towers ever since and loves it there. It is apartment style and she loves having her own room (with a full size bed) but still being walking distance from classes.

I’ve heard good things about Nike/Hercules for the double but how far is iit from classes, some people says its really far and some say it’s right there. I’ve also heard heard good things about Lake Claire, like that it is a cheaper alternative for freshman to an apartment like the Towers. I’ve heard some bad things about Apollo. And of course everyone raves about the Towers, but I’m not sure exactly how much my mom is willing to pay for me to live on campus, also, i don’t want to be too far from my classes (i can oversleep sometimes).

It really depends on your major and what courses you have done. I took most of my gen eds in highschool (AP) so i can start with my science courses which happen to be right near herc/nike. Lake clair is mostly freshman and all apartment style (individual rooms)

Okay, I don’t know if this will help, I’ve taken and passed AP Eng Lang and AP US History, this year I am taking AP Eng Lit and AP Statistics. Also, I will be majoring nursing.

So thats a few classes you wont have to take, all in all its not a long walk ot any part of the campus. Most of my friends longboard from place to place

My Son was accepted to UCF yesterday for Fall 2012. He’s applied to 4 schools, but we are fairly certain that he will choose UCF. I’m wondering when is the critical time to apply for housing. It requires a $250 NR deposit, so I’d rather not apply for housing until he’s absolutely sure (Feb or March). He’ll most likely choose Nike/Hercules or Lake Claire. Looking for advice on the best time to apply? Thanks.

The best time to apply is ASAP; it hypothetically improves his chances of securing a room, if it’s assumed that dorm rooms are assigned on a first come first served basis.

The $250 deposit is due up front, but is refunded if he is not assigned a room. If he is assigned a room, the $250 goes towards the bill, and at this point, is non-refundable.

However, if he goes through the process of applying for a room, pays the $250 deposit, and later decides to cancel the application, the deposit is then non-refundable.

All in all, have your son be extra certain that he wants to attend UCF AND live on campus before applying!

I’ve heard from many the best time to apply is AS SOON AS the app opens. The website (housing.ucf.edu) is saying it will open in mid/late November. I’m assuming it’s like UF and is like reserving a spot in line. What I’ve read on the website and other forums is that you will select where you want and will pay then in March, you will log-in again and will “re-apply” based on when they confirmed your first app. Deff. be sure that your son wants to go there because like ericiidx said, it is NON REUNDABLE. Congrats to him!

I am interested in towers but it seems that trhey make you pay a year Is ther a sight up yet for roommates?

it is only an annual agreement but if shes going for summer why not

Not yet, the website says in Mid November the app opens up and in March you put in for roommates

They won’t start this summer. Ugh.

Hey, I was just accepted today (wootwoot! :D) but I was wondering if the Apollo or Libra dorms were good and in your opinion, which one is better?

their not the nicest/biggest but your really close to classes so it’s kinda half and half

congrats JohnnyRemy. I only saw Libra when I went on the tour, and it was nice. Personally I liked the L-Shaped because it adds a little more privacy where as the rectangle is split down the middle, its the one on the video online

and sifantic is right, they werent the biggest but I thought they were bigger than nike/hercules and of course they arent gorgeous like the towers but they’re acceptable

for me its between lake claire and libra… choices choices!

for me, libra and nike/hercules
