@theoaubreo @assefagha i know i’m not looking forward to waiting an extra 7 hours! wish i could open it right away! good luck! im rooting for you guys!
@Dankjewel what do you mean “too good for uchicago”? i applied ea because i’m applying somewhere else ED and don’t like the idea of applying EDII. im not trying to contradict you, im genuinely curious
People aiming for HYPMS or place other unis above Chicago
@Dankjewel that’s horribly misinformed and presumptive of you. I applied EA to Uchicago because I like other schools and want to have more time to make my decision. Think before you speak.
Did anyone else receive something in the mail about Uchicago “Fictitious” alumni with people like Indiana Jones and Mark Watney?
@college2022vux Yes we got that postcard today too.
AHHH Monday… Less than a week
Only four days!!! It’s so close. I don’t know how I will make it through this weekend…
Same… I’m so nervous…
What did everyone write their essay about? I only ask because mine was pretty out there and wanted to know if that was what they were looking for.
I did the clerical error in the major, but I don’t really want to say what it was in case I get deferred and someone uses it
I created my own prompt, idk if they like that more
I chose a prompt from a couple years ago. It was the one where you had to take a historical figure and write a story about them but in a different location, occupation or era. I had a really out there idea but I loved it and decided to take a chance and go for it. I decided to write about Franz Riechelt (guy who made his own parachute and jumped off of the effiel tower and died trying to prove to everyone that it worked) and put him on Shark Tank the show. It was a bit of a risk but it was, in my opinion at least, really creative so why not.
I did the one about imperfections and wrote about jazz music.
I really like the idea !!!
I chose the prompt #5, something that I like not in spite of but rather due to its quirks and imperfections. I talked about the city of Chicago as if it were a meal that is too hot/too cold too spicy or too big.
Last year, my son was performing in a solo recital when the UChicago results came out at 5 PM (EST)…so of course, he looked up at the clock on the wall, realized what time it was, and while he was playing, he started making facial expressions that I knew could only mean “go check the portal and signal to me if I got in or not!”. Naturally, I gave him the “Dude, you are on stage!!! You have got to be out of your mind” parental glare. He kept glancing over, but after no response from me, he decided to blaze through the rest of the piece at a furious pace (think Flight of the Bumble Bee), then ran off the stage to check the portal. The mom next to me asked if he was ok because she thought he had diarrhea. The point of all this is…nothing really. Just wanted to let you know that if you are freaking out, it’s pretty normal. Nonetheless, I know it may be hard, but try to relax…or at the very least, try not to act like my son and run around like you have diarrhea.
So, if you get in, congratulations! If you get deferred, you may want to consider switching to EDII (assuming you’re ok with that option). If you got the third option, then don’t despair - there are lots of great schools, and you are not defined by the school you attend (cliché but true IMHO).
And one more thing to those of you who get in - don’t forget to check your portal a few hours later and look for the enrollment deposit link that magically shows up. Room assignment priority is determined by deposit payment date, so keep that in mind.
I sincerely wish the best of luck to all of you!!
I wrote about what is important, but under discussed and did Ultimate Frisbee discrimination. I really hope I get in. So far I’ve gotten in to Santa Clara and Boston College, but was deferred by Notre Dame.
Just got deferred from MIT…now really tense for UChicago ED!!!
I chose to use an old essay prompt about a word in another language that, if translated to English , would lose its meaning. I chose the word “domingo”, which in Spanish is both a day of the week and a weekly allowance. I talked about growing up in a financially unstable household, my family’s extreme couponing tendencies , and watching my parents take on a variety of occupations to maintain our household. I also emphasized the word’s cultural meaning inside Mexican households and how it signifies children’s first introduction to the value of money. While my essay might not fulfill Chicago’s creativity expectations , I believe I was successful in addressing how (the lack of) these weekly allowances shaped me into the person I am today.
How did you guys know the date when ED results will come out? Did they send an email? Because if so, I never got an email…???
