UCI Conditional Acceptance Mistake

Hello all,

Last year when I created my application, they asked for planned courses for the Spring. So I filled them out, and even updated them at the beginning of this year. One of the classes I put on there was a class that I was waitlisted in. I ultimately didn't get into the class, but my application still reflected that I was taking it. I stupidly didn't notify them that I didn't get in and now my conditional acceptance requires that class to be completed.

I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation, or knows someone who has, and can give me a heads up on what may happen? I have emailed admissions and will call them on Monday to explain my situation, so any advice as to what I should say would also be very much welcomed.

Thanks in advance,
hopefulant

What does you provisional acceptance look like

Complete the following course(s) with the grade specified, by the academic term specified below:

Complete English-3 with a grade of C or Better by Spring 2014.
Complete PHYS 3B with a grade of B or Better by Spring 2014. (This is the class I couldn’t get into.)

Also, I have done two Calculus based Physics courses for my Engineering major.

I’m in the same boat. I put down that I was planning to take 3 classes mid-march, updated my TAU, emailed/called/messaged all the UC’s, and then found out that I didn’t get into 1 of them.

Now, I’m still waiting to contact them because SMC is beginning their 8 week classes and I’m hoping to get into one of them to make up for the other one (Financial aid reasons).

I’ll know if I got in next week so, I’ll be contacting all of the UC’s (again), notify them of my schedule changes, and pray none of my admission offers are rescinded.

Which schools did you apply to? Were you admitted into any?

If you got into UCLA, there’s a tab on the left hand of your online decision page where you can notify them of any schedule changes.

If you got into UCI, use the message center.

For the other UC’s, I’m not too sure.

BurntCorpse,

I got into UCI and I sent an email out to their message center right after I got the acceptance. They gave me a counselor to send the message to, but the message center contact sheet looked dubious. Only 500 character max and stuff.

If I don’t get in, I’ll have to wait another year with one class to take, haha. You know if they hold positions or if you have to apply again and might not get in?

Yeah the best way is to notify them immediately. You were supposed to do that since we had end of march to update our TAU. What is your major? Is it impacted?

My major is Electrical Engineering but I’m not sure if it’s impacted.

Any engineering major is pretty strict on their prereqs. When did you message your counselor via message center

Mik194,

I messaged the counselor they assigned me the day I got accepted right when I knew that they still had me down for the Physics class. Huge facepalm.

They don’t hold positions so, if your admission is revoked, you will have to apply again next year.

The best thing to do would be updating your TAU to reflect your recent schedule changes AND messaging the admissions counselor of any changes made in the TAU.

Thank you guys very much for your advice and experience. I hope everything goes well for you, BurntCorpse, and I hope I can maybe haggle with the system as best as I can because UCI is my only choice. :D

The message center does look a little sketchy, but don’t worry. If an admissions counselor doesn’t reply within a week’s time, I’d call admissions and see what’s up. Actually, I’d call them anyways and see what they have to say and what their recommendations are.
