UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@Ohm888 By any chance do you know how the GPA translates over? Would we just transfer over with our same GPAs?

You transfer with a 0.00

@chaserichardson The students, staff, and faculty at UCR, in my experience, has always been very friendly and nice, and it has been overall a very positive experience! If you’re coming from a CC, I think you’ll very much enjoy the larger environment and the university experience/lifestyle that it provides :). It’s a very diverse campus, which I can appreciate, and it feels like you’re meeting new people all the time.

The main reason why I’m trying to transfer out is because the academia here hasn’t been challenging me in my field of study and I’ve been having feelings of being tired of this campus already. However, I know that isn’t a really common feeling for a lot of people and you would be a transfer so I don’t think it would be a problem. People really aren’t kidding when they say night life is dead here though haha. The city is beginning to develop more and is opening more recreational places, but it’s still pretty lacking as of now, especially if you won’t have a car.

Regardless, UCR was my way of leaving my small Asian suburban city and living on my own for the first time as a pretty sheltered and introverted person, and the campus was really accommodating to it! I’ve really changed and grown a lot as a person within my mere two years here. Sorry for the story, but I hope this somewhat helps! Good luck!

@IBkidonthestreet Once you successfully transfer into a new university, your GPA will start over at the new school. So whether you have a 3.7 or 4.0 at your current CC/University/College, it won’t matter anymore when you study at your new school. Your GPA will start over.

Your GPA does start over, but if you apply to graduate school they will look at all your GPAs.

Anyone up for chancing? Thanks for any help!

Transferring from an instate CC:

  • White male, 22 years old (I know they don't really look at this)
  • English major
  • 3.72 GPA (near 4.0 for English classes, got one B in a creative writing class of all places)
  • Completed all of IGETC (GE requirements)
  • Will have an AA-T degree end of semester (on accident--this is really only helpful for CSU, right?)
  • Completed all major requirements (I think?)
  • Been an English peer tutor for over 2 years on campus (but this is really my only EC )
  • Pretty confident that my personal statements are above average
  • History of mental illness (a fairly big focus of my PS)
  • Lower class
  • Not entirely sure what else is helpful to add (made Dean's list 4 times, does that matter at all? lol)

Thanks again for any help

@capnlonelygale Hello fellow English major. According to this https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major you have a really good shot! Average GPA for admitted English majors ranges from 3.3-3.7

@capnlonelygale I believe you have a nice shot! IGETC complete - awesome! If major requirements are indeed complete - perfect B-)
Your GPA is pretty stern so I wouldn’t worry about that. Hopefully you emphasized how overcoming said struggles (mental illness) distinguishes you as a student that succeeds despite unfavored circumstances. There are useful tools on the University of California website that can give you a general idea about transfer admissions stats in years past:

You start your GPA over at zero.

hello, I NEED HELP!!!

I have already TAG UCI and I am currently taking fundamentals of computer science II (C++) from ADDITIONAL APPROVED COURSES FOR THE MAJOR . I want to drop this course right now. and I have already and only completed all courses from MAJOR PREPARATION COURSES REQUIRED FOR TRANSFER. My major is computer science, If I drop this course will it affect my application, and or will my qualification for TAG ?

Thank you!!!

Did you call the school and ask them?

Major: Business Administration
IGETC: Done by Spring 2019
Major Pre-req: Done by Spring 2019
GPA: 3.8
Honors Program: H2H

Anyone hear back from TAG yet?

Last year people started posting acceptances on Tuesday, March 20th (late afternoon/evening). Seemed like most had TAG’d but some hadn’t. Looking forward to reading good news on here!

I’m starting to get anxious lol

Lets hope Irvine starts releasing early this year like they did last year. im losing my mind lol

@IBkidonthestreet Can I call them ? and just ask will it affect my admission?

@fisher316 If you’re calling just to ask them, it wouldn’t affect your decision because you’re just getting info. If you’ve already dropped the course, it might depending on what they say.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the login page for the admissions portal?

@jesflo9 I just logged in after I read your post. And I was able to do it without a problem.

@jesflo9 I was able to log in just fine
