UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@sagaciousforever: If you do not have 60 UC transferable units by end of Spring, then you will not be fine. Not sure how UCI is a safety unless you TAGed, but even if you TAGed and you do not have the minimum units then your TAG will be revoked.

@Gumbymom I only have 62 units and not all of them are transferable because I currently study at a top 50, 4-year private university in California( not from CC so it’s gonna be hard lol).

I have already applied to 4 UC campuses because I thought they are lenient on missing very few units. Technically, if they admit you with fewer than 60 transferrable units, you will have to take summer classes and even an additional year of college, so isn’t that beneficial for the UC colleges because they get more tuition money?

Also, do you think if I should send them an additional message that I am willing to graduate a quarter to a year late if they accept me?

@sagaciousforever: Not all campuses accept lower division transfers which would be under 60 units, so much will depend upon how many units are truly UC transferable, if they will accept you with less than 60 units, if you have completed all the required courses for transfer and if they have room for a lower division transfer.

The majority of UC’s do not accept Winter/Spring transfers so I would not count on it.

@sagaciousforever: Since you are applying from a 4 year, you are not eligible for TAG, so disregard that statement.

UC Merced, Riverside and Santa Cruz have accepted some Winter/Spring transfers but this is not always guaranteed each year and not all majors are available.

@Gumbymom Thanks again for your response. I will hope for the best! I have applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI. I will let you know how it goes when the decisions come out.

@Gumbymom Thanks for that info. I did not apply for any UCs that’s not in the Top 50 since I am in a Top 50 now then what’s the point of applying for UCSC, UCR, and UCM?

Also I got into most UCs as a freshman.

@jeetusSwo yes I have tried contacting admissions however it seems like they are just responding with a script. It’s always the same thing" you must fulfill all major requirements in order to receive admission" which isn’t the case UCR just accepted me without taking OCHEM nor the second half of calculus-based physics. I guess I will just have to wait and see how it plays out.

@kristinpete Calculus-Based Physics is mandatory for me to take as it is also a prerequisite for medical schools which I plan to apply to, however, I have based my entire schedule off of Assist since I began at a cc and I don’t see where algebra-based physics is an option. At my JC (MSJC) our physics 201/202 correlates to UCI’s Physics 7C/7LC & Physics 7D /7LD

@sagaciousforever: It really makes no difference if you were accepted as a Freshman. As a transfer, your HS information will not be considered except in the instance that you will be evaluated as a Lower division transfer. If you end up with 60+ units then as an Upper Division transfer, you are evaluated based on your college work only.

@jbravomed You do not have to finish all pre-req to be admitted. UCs will always sometimes you to catch up in summer or/and you may have to graduate one quarter to one year late if finance is not a problem for you. Simply put, if your essays stand out and they could admit you despite units and pre-req issues.

@Gumbymom Thanks! Let’s see if I am able to get accepted by the UCs. I am also curious since I have 62 units but transferable units to UCs are probably lower than 60.

Hopefully with 62 units (just total units that I have now but not necessarily all transferable) can still earn me a place in the junior class if my essays and everything else are good.

Anyways, I depend more on USC and Emory since private schools are my major goals. I did not apply to Cornell because they need midterm report and college evaluation which I have to tell everyone such as professors/ advisor/ dean that I am transferring.

@jbravomed I am also a Biology major and am pre-med. Calculus-based is not required. Yes, you must take physics as a prerequisite, however, you have the choice between Calc-based and Alg-based…most people choose Algebra-based. The MCAT also does not require practice in Calc-based physics.

hello, I NEED HELP!!!

I have already TAG UCI and I am currently taking fundamentals of computer science II (C++) from ADDITIONAL APPROVED COURSES FOR THE MAJOR . I want to drop this course right now. and I have already and only completed all courses from MAJOR PREPARATION COURSES REQUIRED FOR TRANSFER. My major is computer science, If I drop this course will it affect my application, and or will my qualification for TAG ?

Thank you!!!

@sagaciousforever I have seen transfers get in with 59, but that’s the exception rather than the rule. Hopefully you have 60.
But elsewhere you note a lot of AP units, which counts toward the 60.

Essentially, all it means is that they have received my FAFSA, right?

Everyone else receive this email in early March?

@Ohm888 will UCI can take up to 70 transferable units right? I’m assuming this only applies to students who have more than 60 units?
I applied with 57 units but will have 71 by spring. Do admission officers have the discretion to use whatever units that are lower division to make it to 60 if I will have more?

@udonsalad How do you like UC Riverside? I was recently accepted and am curious - I plan on going to Highlander Day

@chaserichardson I received mine feb 10th. It simply updated to a message that I’m eligible for priority funding and that all documents have been received on time. Is this what you are talking about?

@Ohm888 Thanks! Let’s see if I am able to get accepted by the UCs. I am also curious since I have 62 units including AP but my transferable units to UCs are probably lower than 60.

I study at a top 50 private university so my school has a public speaking class and that is probably not transferable lol

@C105213 you get subject credit for all transferable courses, they just dump the number 70 onto your UC count. The units themselves are not related to any specific course.
