I was admitted into UCI for School of Social Sciences and UCSD for Thurgood Marshall.

I am definitely majoring in a social science- psych, socio, philo, poli sci, or something of the sort.

I am very torn on this whole thing. One day I am 100% feeling for UCI, the next our I am 100% feeling for UCSD.

I don’t care about prestige of UCSD over UCI.
I want to get into law school and so I want to know which of the two schools is it better to attend to get a higher GPA while majoring in the social sciences.
Getting a high GPA IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME (this is the reason why i’m turning down berkeley and ucla, for easier competition at uci or ucsd).

So considering that I want to law school and major in a social science (psych, socio, philo, poli sci, or something of the sort) and graduate with the highest GPA possible, which school should I attend? UCI or UCSD?

I was in the same situation and I sent in my SIR to UCI a week ago. I live in OC, so it isn't worthwhile to go down to San Diego when a school that is nearly as prestigious is 15 minutes away. UCI has good Social Ecology programs like their crimonology, law and society major. You really have to look at what's best for you personally. UCSD was my dream school, but after getting in, I realized that that was all in my head. I visited UCI and the campus was really nice. I know tons of people who go there and that was also important for me. So, I will be an Anteater next year... and maybe you will be too :-).

"Getting a high GPA IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME (this is the reason why i'm turning down berkeley and ucla, for easier competition at uci or ucsd)."

i dont think ucsd will be any easier than ucla or berk for attaining a high gpa. if your looking to get good grades most uc's are tough, but uci will be easier to attain a high gpa, ucsd is considered academically to be one of the more difficult uc's, especially to get a good gpa at. i imagine this is because of its strength in sciences and engineering. i personally would go to ucsd ucla or berkeley, just because even at uci it will not be a lot easier than one of the top tier uc's.

UCSD's MArshall college is the perfect place for the social sciences. the GES may seem tough but they provide you with a great foundation in your major. UCI will seem mor eof a state school than SD I assume. But whatever floats your boat...

amiradaprincess, what are you majoring in? where in the oc do you live?

yeah when you say that you feel ucsd has been your dream school simply psychologically, i feel that way too. after thinking about it longer and harder, it sunk it that i haven't visited ucsd so i really have no substantive reason to be so appealed to it. sd has been my dream school. i don't know anyone going to ucsd but i know a bunch of people that are going to uci. i guess we are different in that you want to go to uci because so many people you know are going.. while i want to go to sd because i don't know anyone there at all. being in a totally new enviroment has always been attractive to me. i live 20 mins next to uci. i guess its all in my head too o_O i feel like getting away from 16 years of my life in the oc (westminster) will be wonderful.the voices in my head are strong.. lol. *sigh.. i really wanna make up my mind before spring break ends but there are a lot more variables to consider, especially financially!!! ahh, do i really wanna be in debt 25k when i graduate? or do i wanna go to uci and have 0 debt. i'm so torn.

I think you should go to UCSD bc it seems that is where you want to go. I can see how you could get rid of UCB and UCLA because of the challenge, but if you really want to go to UCSD than go there. UCI is really competitve too so I doubt it would make a huge difference. So if you have a chance to visit UCSD than you will be able to make your decision, but until you can you won't know which school is better for you.

Oh and by the way someone who is a freshmen at UCLA came back to visit one of her teachers and in her life science class only 8 people out of 355 have an A. I just think UCLA must be super competitive so don't feel bad about turning down such a great school.

that's less than 3 percent getting an A; shesh, that's pretty absurd!

what school do you go to baumb?

I'm only a sophomore in high school....but I want to go to UCSB..

oh that's cool. ucsb is a great choice! i have some friends that go there and love it.

remember to take your sat ii's in may jr year next ap weeks so you'll be prepared for both tests at once. kill two birds with one stone!
