UCI, UCD, UCSB Econ Transfer GPA

Hello, everyone! What's the stat of average junior-transfer GPA for econ department at UCI, UCD, UCSB for the past 2 years? It seemed very difficult to figure it out on the Internet. Anyone knows about this?

Also, If you have successfully transferred to one of these three UCs with a major of Econ or related major to Econ, please feel free to post your stats here.

Thanks!

I’ll try to explain what I know since I am applying for econ. The reason they don’t exist is because most people TAG into those 3 majors.

UC Davis Economics: minimum GPA is 2.8(not set in stone but to be competitive), IGETC is not required but recommended, major prep is strongly recommended but not required, calculus and algebra is strongly recommended prior to transfer. Minimum TAG GPA is 3.2. Lots of applicants TAG into this major so below 3.2 is very, very difficult. For Managerial Economics you must have competed Statistics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Calculus with a cumulative GPA if 2.8 in these classes. UC Davis told me Managerial Economics is impacted, my CC said it’s not so I don’t know but it’s one of the more popular majors.

UC Irvine Economics: minimum GPA is 2.8(set in stone), IGETC not required, must complete Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and 1 year of Calculus with at least a ‘B’ in all courses. TAG GPA is 3.2. Probably very difficult to get in under 3.2. Don’t know if it’s impacted.

UC Santa Barbara Economics/Economics and Accounting: minimum GPA is apparently 2.4, there doesn’t seem to be a minimum gpa for the major written in stone. Just 2.4 for the school. IGETC is not required. Major preparation is required. You need to complete Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and 1 year of Calculus OR you can replace the 2nd Calculus course with Statistics. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all major classes. I’ve heard this major is impacted but I haven’t seen it written anywhere in stone.

This is just what I know, take it with a grain of salt.

Can an impacted major affect your admission if you tagged the school and have all the requirements for tag and transfer?

No, as long as you met all the requirements and your TAG was approved, you will be accepted. TAG is 99.99999999% guaranteed. Now if you end up failing a requirement or your GPA drops under the minimum, they will not accept you even if you have TAG.

@nycali no, as long as you met all the requirement on the contract, you will be fine.

@emprex what about 3.2-3.3ish? i know a crazy amount of students already signed the tag, so will slightly more than 3.2 still stand for a decent chance for econ at those three?

unfortunately, i will still have three major prereq missed by the end of spring for irvine. Does it really hurt my chances? davis may be my first choice and will finish all the prereq though.

already got every final grade of this semester for next-year transfer. i will have 3.35 uc transferable gpa and 3.40 cc gpa when i am gonna do the january update.

major in economics.
major prereqs, igetc, uc minimum req all done by the end of spring, for UCSB and UCD.
no tag with any UCs.
good upward trend.

how possible can i get the offer from these 3 for transfer? please help!

^ need some lights to be guided. Anyone would bring a candle?

same here, econ major. 3.34 after january update. applied ucla, uci, ucsd, ucr.
my first choice is uci. hopefully they don’t waitlist me. I don’t like waiting.
ucla is out of reach.
ucr is pretty much guaranteed.
tcccom, you have shot at all three schools.

^ We are on the same boat. Hope we both can finally get into the UCs we want!

The only thing I am worried about is I don’t have a TAG for any of these UCs, and the gpa is just passing through the borderline gpa 3.2. (It will be very possible for UCs to deny anyone that’s less than 3.2.)

At the same time, a confusion also came up into my mind about UCI admission. From the assist.org, here is a line “All
applicants must complete one course in microeconomics, one course in
macroeconomics, and two semesters or two quarters of analytic geometry and
calculus”. Does it mean, at the time we sent our app, we had to finish these 4 courses?
I am currently taking micro-, will it affect my chance?

tcccom I think you’re allowed to finish it in the spring. They’ll see that you’re taking it in the spring because of the TAU. If you want to be absolutely sure, email a UCI advisor. Just make sure you have them all done by the end of spring I believe.

@emprex Thanks! I am going to get more information about this. I just finished TAU a few days ago and it had been successfully submitted. However, it seemed like even if it was submitted, the TAU was not closed yet unlike the app in Nov. I wonder how come? We can still log back in to change information?

I think you’re allowed to update the TAU even after January 31st but there are no guarantees they will see the changes. Anything Jan. 31 or before they will for sure see. This is just a guess.

^ Yes, I guess so. Thanks!

this is supposed to be an Econ-stat thread. How come no one from Economics speaks something about their stats? lol

Not sure. I didn’t see too many Econ majors in the decisions threads last year for the UCs. The ones that posted usually had tag. But also at the same time, there’s not much info on the avg gpa for Econ majors admitted. It’s weird.

^ Indeed. What I’ve seen is pointing mainly towards Cal and UCLA. A lot of people stuck with the top two UCs. With that being said, a whole lot of applicants posted with a high GPA like 3.7ish-3.9ish, no matter what major. Possibly Econ at other UCs is not so impacted as Econ at Cal and LA, more possibly many applicants could not build up their own confidence by comparing their own to applicants with higher GPA, then decided to keep silent.
I may be wrong.
