I know this question has been asked repeatedly through the past several years however I can’t find a specific answer. I’m transferring from a CCC and I’ve applied as a Sociology major to UCSD, UCI and UCD. I got accepted into all 3 for Sociology and more specifically into Revelle for UCSD. I’m hoping go to veterinary school after but I know plans change. Since I am from SoCal I don’t think I have it in me to move to Davis just yet, although I would love to and only be so lucky to go to Davis for Vet school.
So I’m revisiting the topic, does it matter which school I got to for undergrad? I.e. Do rankings matter?
Pros and Cons between UCSD and UCI? Not looking to start an argument just want peoples general and humble opinions.
Does one school have better availability for premed courses for non priority majors?
I’ll be visiting both campuses soon to see how I feel about each but regardless of which I choose, I’ll be living off campus and commuting.
Hi, I’m also a transfer-premed-social-science-major! I believe both have their advantages but I also know that admissions committees for med school and vet school don’t look at what school you attend but look at what you do with the resources you are given there. I say go to the school that gives you that “feeling”-the “I belong here feeling”. I think that rankings are subjective and there are factors (regardless of rankings) that make one campus better than the other.
I think if you’re trying to take your pre med reqs you can always minor in something that grants you a pathway towards finishing up those classes.
For me, I’m leaning more towards UCSD than UCI because I love San Diego and there’s plenty of student run clinics that provide services for immigrants near the Mexican border. I want to help immigrant communities once I’m a physician so I believe going to SD would give me the exposure and experience I need to better serve them in the future.
Hope you decide soon and congrats on your acceptance!
