ucla anthro transfers!

anyone want to start a little CC to University "reunion"
let me know!
and what is your intended emphasis, what are you most looking forward to, and any ucla athro fun stuff
:P

and maybe you could all post your stats, yeah?

for those that are applying for this year

I am a Uc to Uc transfer with a 3.5 gpa. I did research in the field, and an ok amount of ECs. I believe my essays are what made me shine, but most of all I think they were able to tell my love for anthro was genuine, and that I was not trying to get into the school through a major thats not impacted.

I’m also going to be a UC to UC transfer

Which UC?

I’m super excited!! UCLA is top 10 for Anthro and the current students seem happy. I plan on doing the Sociocultural concentration and minor in Global Studies or Film.

GPA: 3.4ish
Completed all 4 pre-reqs, had to go to West LA for Comm/Linguistics.

I will be transferring from ucr. I like it a lot here, but I love ucla and there are more opportunities.

I am still not sure. I did mesoamerican archaeology in belize and boy, it was TOUGH but a GREAT experience. I want to check out some cultural field schools so I can get a taste of it.
I also want to minor in something, but im not sure what. I was thinking religious studies, but idk. or art. i dont even knowww.
any ideas?

did you have the prereqs done before you applied? I’m thinking I might have all but one done by the time i apply but I’ll definitely have it done by the spring before I have to transfer (or the end of sophomore year)

think this will hurt my chances?

I got into UCLA for Anthropology BA but really want to switch to the BS major since I am planning on going to dental school and the science courses for the BS program are a necessity. I heard from another member on the forum that it is very easy and only takes a matter of minutes to change from a BA to a BS on orientation day. I unfortunately have not completed all my science prereqs (I’m missing chem1B, 1 semester of organic chemistry, genetics, & both calculus classes) :frowning: Will I have to take these heavy duty science courses in the mix with my upper division major work when at UCLA if I switch to Anthropology BS? Please let me know

I’d really appreciate any feedback & advice from any new transfer students facing the same/similar situations or from current UCLA Anthropology students.

Thank you very much in advance

Mrd, im sorry to hear that, but if theres a will, theres a way! im just unsure of it as of now

@AllFieldsAreReq I completed 3 by fall (Physical A, Linguistics A, Cultural B) and just finished Archeology short 8 week session @ WLA. Also, I don’t know if this helped, but I updated my Archaeology grade (A) at the end of March. I would suggest you look at other CC’s and try to complete all 4 by fall, worst case take the last one in spring…but DEFINITELY complete all 4.

I am a transfer hopeful as well! But would it kill your chances if you completed the major reqs at the end of spring? Also is it easier to get into anthro ba then bs?

@mrD390 My brother was in the same situation  He switched to BS, but he had to take all the missing prereqs at UCLA…since they’re required for your degree.
