I was accepted with a full ride for having a 4.2 GPA, 1030 SAT score, and taken plenty of AP classes/extra curricular activities/community service. Honestly, it’s all about what you wrote in your essays. When I wrote my essays I made sure that I included my hardships, achievements, contributions, and who I am as a person.
Accepted for molecular, cellular, and developmental biology!!
- Out-of-state
- 4.00 Unweighted GPA, 4.4 Weighted GPA
- 33 ACT, 1480 SAT. Subject Tests: 750 Math 2
- I basically did as many extracurriculars and took as many AP classes as possible. I feel like my 4 essays were what probably pushed it over the edge for me, as I wrote about interesting, personal, yet still humorous topics. In a school like UCLA where they receive so many qualified applicants, the essays are what push you over the edge. I’d advise others to consider writing about an anecdote that caused them to have an awakening or learn a valuable lesson–colleges love the “make something out of nothing.” For example, in one of my essays, I talked about how an experience with pizza taught me to take risks.
-My other results: Denied from Northwestern ED, Accepted to UIUC, Deferred at UMich EA, Accepted to Purdue, Accepted to UW-Madison, Accepted to UCSD. Waiting on Berkeley and USC.
Congrats to all the other new bruins (:
Hi! I got accepted but am confused because my UCapplication has not updated it still says my application is under review… this is not something to worry about right?
not sure how that works, but I did call Cal about switching majors. There they said after you accept, when you meet with your advisor in the summer, you can petition to change majors. if you have the pre-recs, they will consider it, but percentage that get approved are small. Maybe it is similar at UCLA. I would call admissions.
Got into HSSEAS for Bioengineering! Still shocked (BioE is supposedly the most selective, and it seems to be hovering at like a 6% acceptance rate based on historical data)

@anotherdooropens I initially applied for DMA but there was an issue with the supplement and I was transferred to the CAS pool. I consider my portfolio one the stronger parts of my application so I was bummed about that. DMA is soooo super competitive (5% acceptance rate!) and I’m sure your portfolio is amazing. Many of my friends who also applied to DMA are the best artists I’ve seen–with awards and achievements to show for it–and they all got rejected, so don’t feel too bad.
Accepted!

anyone else accepted and created their ucla logon ID but it says they’re missing the pin? I see the pin on my accepted decision, yet I don’t know where to input it into the account that I made in order to see financial aid and accept my offer. It’s called the 9-digit UCLA identification number and I see the number, yet do not know where to input it in my ucla account. I called the phone number offered yet they can’t respond until Monday.
From what I have seen they take about 2,000 students on waitlist and their website said that historically each year they take in 200-400 students from waitlist to admitted.
Accepted!

@10s4life Oh, thanks for the information!! I was speculating off what I read here:
http://www.bioeng.ucla.edu/statistics/
Assuming that UCLA has a 35% yield rate which adcoms look to offset, that’s how I came to that number
@HopefulStud That’s resourcefulness! I can see why Ucla admitted you. Our yield rate is in the 30% range but steadily improving especially we are now the number one public university.
UCLA was my dream school :(, feeling so depressed right now… congrats to those who got in
@10s4life Thanks for that report! Do you know of others that cover the whole university or at least L&S? I remember seeing stuff in the past but I can’t find it now.
@TreeAlum Since L&S does not admit by major, the general Ucla admit rate is what is used to determine chances. No one in L&S is in their major at the time of admission yet
Rejected ):
