UCLA College Honors Program

Hey there! I’m a new posting on CC but have followed many conversations from the sidelines. Thank you all for your help by the way.

My question is whether there is any value in applying to the College Honors Program. Many of the discussions I have seen have been from 2011 and I was wondering if there are any substantive advantages for an Econ major (or another thread I could find this in)?

Thank you in advance and sorry if this is repetitious!

I went to a transfer meeting at UCLA and they pretty much said there is no advantage or disadvantage to being in the honors program. However, if you transfer with honors (TAP certified) then you can apply with an alternate major in the college of Letter and Science. This means if you get rejected by your first major, then they will go back and make sure you’ve done all prerequisites for your alternative major. This seems to be the only advantage as far as the UCs go but I’m not sure how it is for other schools. Hope this helps!

Thank you! If there is no inherent benefit while being at UCLA, I’m sure the primary benefit is the recognition of the rigorous course load.
