I'm applying to UCLA and my major is communications and I have a 3.7 GPA with my pre reqs and IGETC will be finished in spring, but my question is am I competitive? should I not even bother applying because I heard they only accepts applicants with 3.9 GPA or above.

also my EC's
Student Government
Honor Society
Coldstone store manager
and a few awards

well it depends
certainly a 3.7 is a very very respectable gpa to be had
HERE Is what I was told myself at a ucla admissions meeting BY the head of admissions (it’s really valuable):
There are over 100 majors in the college of arts and sciences, and 10 of which at most are very difficult to get into. She also said majoring in something vs. career are a lot of the time unrelated, so just pick something that interests you no matter what the “practicality” is, and you’ll be happier. Plus, if you’re not applying to an impacted major, she said if you meet the minimum req’s for admission as a transfer student, it is (and i quote) “easy if you have a pulse and a 3.2. you’ll probably get in but not fo rimpacted.” so at least you know if yo udon’t applly for impactged you have a reallllly good shot :)

Would you be ok with getting rejected? Or would you rather get accepted as a Soc or PoliSci major? I say you have something like a 1/10 chance with a gpa below 3.9

if u don’t have a 3.9 u have little to no chance for communications. the ucla rep at my CC told me that they rarely even look at applications with GPA less than 3.9. i’m applying for communications as well with a 4.0 GPA but i probably wont even get in since i have no EC’s and in my essay i’m going to be talking about business, which is my real major (applying to haas)

my goal is to have a career in broadcast journalism and my dream school is UCLA and I think Communications major is the closest thong since they don’t have a journalism major. What other major can I apply as that is related to broadcast journalism other than communications at UCLA?
