UCLA Orientation Check-in Time

@UCcasualty, it may not have been designated for your major or the majority of others. But for certain majors/colleges it was:

“Students in the School of Arts & Architecture and the School or Theater, Film & Television will have designated sessions available to you based on specific majors.”

That’s what mine said.

I think it depends. Hopefully 205 still has what you want =)

yeah… open classes

What is the phone # to contact orientation/when is the office open?

it might be something where 20 slots in 201 are reserved for X majors or whatever and once all those slots are full then any X majors after wont see 201 as an option anymore. Otherwise it wouldnt make sense if the early ones were seen as full hours ago but are open now… unless they added more spots later

@Tessa - (310) 206-6685

Dang, seems like I missed out on a lot. How fast did the first and session go out? :</p>

Ok everyone seems a bit confused about the whole major+orientation thing.
Here’s what the orientation site says…

School of Arts & Architecture and School of Theater, Film & Television
Students in the School of Arts & Architecture and the School or Theater, Film & Television will have designated sessions available to you based on specific majors. If you are unable to attend one of your specific sessions please contact the Orientation Office at (310) 206-6685. While you will be able to attend a different session, we cannot guarantee that your departmental counselor will be available to meet with you at that time.

Only the people accepted into those majors will be given a limited number of options in regards to orientation dates. I’m guessing, like czone said, that they put a number of slots aside for those majors. But only because if we don’t go to those intended dates, we can’t see our departmental counselors. Basically, we’re screwed if we don’t sign up asap for those sessions.

Also…

Students in the following schools are required to receive academic advising prior to enrolling in classes:

Students in the School of the Arts & Architecture

School of Theater, Film, and Television

School of Engineering and Applied Science

School of Nursing

So we have to do that as well.

^Just to give you an idea… I was staring at my computer screen for 4 hours before I was able to access the orientation sign up page.

Quick question, how do you find out who your counselor is?

Was that post a response to what I had said, UCcasualty?

oops, no I was talking to edelynly 'cause she missed the madness that was going on earlier.

Must have been UCLA’s server… I have HORRIBLE internet (like, I-steal-from-my-neighbor horrible) but still got through. I was surprised!

LOL! XD

awesome

both my friend and I are philosophy majors. I was on myUCLA for two hours since the orientation link opened and was only able to get session 203. She signed onto myUCLA at 9PM because I reminded her and got session 201. ■■■.

I think there is only two reasons for this:

1)they opened up more slots
2)certain session have reserved seats for specific majors

I don’t think that anyone changing their orientation date is possible yet because you have to call them in order to cancel your initial request.

@UCcasualty: im pretty sure each department has its own counselor(s). i went to UCLA last month and was able to talk to the counselor of MCDB department. she is really nice and she said she would be looking forward to talk to me at the orientation (Edited)

I vote for #1 opening more slots especially in light of musicislove’s issue it can’t be majors… except for the art theater people… but on the other hand how could they just add more spots… there is a finite amount of transfers with a finite amount of space in whatever rooms they use, finite staff etc and they do it every year… you would think they would have it planned out pretty well by now

“counselors are specific for different majors”… did you mean something else?

isnt philosophy in the arts&architecture college though? they get a certain session.

i’m kinda ****e d that i got such a late session despite having logged in 20 minutes before sign ups started.

wait no it’s not, it’s letters&sciences. how did she do that?! ughh that annoys me.

oh shoot, i meant each department has its own counselor(s)
