UCLA Parking Decisions

I did not get parking, i got waitlisted? seriously W T FFFFFFFFF, my commuting zip code is listed as 92130, SAN DIEGO!

I might end up living 1.5 hours away, two buses and a 20 min walk......... after getting offered a triple i though atleast one thing would go good and i would get parking, but NO!

and,i have to be on campus every freaking day.

I dont like UCLA anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that =/ Eeek.

Where will you be planning to live?? Not in San Diego during the school year right?
Live around LA and van pool, and it's only about 100 dollars a month, and no worries for parking, really consider that.

I am going to probably live in Tarzana, maybe.

i am poor.

Ooh, my friend lives in Tarzana, he said it's not too far from UCLA, like about 15-20 minutes.

You'll probably get offered a space in september or the first week of october.

They never release all of the spaces at once. They do the initial decisions and then usually let a bunch of people with the next number of however many points get one during a second pass, and usually for about $30 cheaper.

I got declined last year under my orange county zip code, but got offered a pass in september. I wouldn't necessarily give up hope until then.

OH and if anyone does end up getting offered parking, make sure you buy an annual pass.

If you only buy for fall quarter, you have to reapply again in november and are most definitely not guarenteed an offer for the next quarter. It's a lot of money for an annual, but if you absolutely need to park all year, it's really the only way to go.

thats good news, i really need the space, i have to take two buses after close to a mile walk to the bus stop... its not impossible but oviously would make it easier having a car.

Tarzana is close by but with the traffic it still sucks.

they proly realized that you didn't write ur real zip code b/c nobody in their right mind would commute that far.

Highschoolda- nah. Some people really do commute from really far. I remember a girl who posted on here a lot last year who was planning to commute from Santa Barbara every day. Which is insane.

But yeah. It was probably just a point issue. You have a good chance of getting one through the waitlist. Just get your ducks in a row to prepare for the (unlikely) chance that you're audited. You can see what they ask for here: <a href="http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/students/parking/permits/audits/FAQ.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/students/parking/permits/audits/FAQ.htm</a></p>

And this is the link where you can see how many points you got:
<a href="http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/students/parking/permits/about/points/%5B/url%5D">http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/students/parking/permits/about/points/</a></p>

And yeah. Tarzana isn't that close, especially with traffic. Definitely need the spot if you can get it.

I don't live as far as Malishka (Santa Monica area), but what are some alternative modes of transportation if I am not offered parking?

EDIT:
It looks like I got parking!
But wait!
Is this guaranteed parking or do I still have to fight for a spot?

**You have been approved to purchase an Annual or Fall Quarter Permit.

We are pleased to offer you Commuter parking in 36ST (Lot 36 Yellow Student).
A letter with this parking offer is also being sent to you via US Mail.**

you suck.

congratulations.

Well it's not a reserved space or anything, but there're usually always spaces. The lots are big.

By the way....you know how far lot 36 is, right? Like....on WILSHIRE?

If you're a design major and are going to be in the building on kinross, 36 is great. But if you have classes on campus....be prepared to walk. From wilshire to campus I estimate that it'd take around 35 minutes with a backback/books/whatever. Maybe a little more for North campus. Just to warn you. But you may be design and that wouldnt be an issue.

allie, you seem to know your way around UCLA. Would you happen to know how far the walk is from the UCLA Big Blue Bus stop to the Boelter Hall/Building?

I actually had to check a map because I don't know south campus AT ALL. I've seriously been over there maybe twice, and one of those times I got massively lost.

But yeah. South campus, Boelter especially, is really close to westwood blvd and therefore close to the big blue stops/turn around. I'd say maybe a 5-10 minute walk? It's hard never having done it, but it looks close.

hey allie I always hear about the south and north campus thing. I heard that like south side is mostly for science majors? and north for others? Something like that, could you clarify that?

North- Arts/humanities/english/film/business/poli sci/comm

South- Math/science/engineering

Music is pretty central, psych/soc are usually on the south side of central campus but not always.

North campus is the pretty side, South campus is significantly less pretty. But it's ok because South campus people usually never get to see the outside of those buildings, anyway.

A 5-10 minute walk is not bad at all. Any longer would suck though since I'll be riding the bus for 20 min. I looked at a map and (I think) saw only one Big Blue Bus stop on campus. Is this true? I won't have the chance to visit LA and campus yet until a few more weeks but I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone can give me insights. Thanks.

i am thinking of not going, i am actually leaning more toward not going.

There's only one turn-around of westwood which is where most of the buses stop. There's another stop on the east side of campus near hilgard, but its on the outside perimeter. I'm pretty sure there'es also another stop or two on the west perimeter near the apartments, but regardless, the westwood turnaround stop is the most centrally located and the one that gets you closest to campus. The other stops require much longer walks.

There's only one main campus stop because UCLA, unlike lots of other schools, doesn't actually have any roads running through it. Lots and lots of streets on the perimeters, and a few narrow streets through the dorms, but no streets that bypass the campus itself. There's really nowhere else but westwood blvd. for buses to go.

Just great!
All of my classes are on the north side of campus...
