In a couple of years I hope to transfer to UCLA or Berkeley. Berkeley is my top choice at the moment, but getting into UCLA is also very important to me also (in case I don't get into Berkeley, or change my mind about it etc.)

However, one of the prereq classes for UCLA is not avaliable at my community college, nor the 3 other community colleges that are nearby. The closest college that has it is quite far, which is problematic because I don't have a car. So, basically I would be on the bus for 3+ hours both ways to get to this class.

My counselor said it wouldn't be that big of a deal to be missing one prereq, but based on what i've read here pre reqs are crucial.

So, my question is, can I get into UCLA w/o one pre-req?

PS. If it makes a difference I will be TAP certified.

You should be fine, it'll only be a major issue if your CC did offer it yet you did not complete it. I'm a poli sci major and i got into UCLA + Berk, with a 2 missing pre reqs that my CC did not offer.

Same here. I missed one or two pre-reqs (I'm not sure; I thought it was one, but my DPR shows two) since my CC didn't offer them. Got into UCLA and Cal.

In case you don't now, Berkeley has changed the major prereqs for the PoliSci department. It's a pretty drastic change, so if you have not reviewed the new requirements I would do so as soon as possible.

you are "required" to complete only the preqs at your community college. You will not be penalized for not completing a preq that was not offered at your CC.

I was missing 5 preqs that were offered in my CC and still got in.

Ektaylor, are these changes listed on assist?? B/c I just looked and they are still the same as last time I checked...

No they are not listed on assist.org, in fact at the top of the assist.org transfer articulation it lists "The agreement you selected was not available for 08-09. The agreement for 07-08 is shown instead" in large red letters.

The prereqs now are:

PS 1, Introduction to American Politics
PS 2, Introduction to Comparative Politics
PS 3, Introduction to Empirical Theory and Quantitative Methods(only offered at UCB)
PS 4, Introduction to Political Theory
PS 5, Introduction to International Relations
One approved history course

The above prereqs are for the Incoming Freshmen Class, Fall 2008 and onward and Incoming Junior Transfers, Fall 2009 and onward.

I got into UCLA and Berkeley despite missing two pre-reqs that my community college didn't offer. I'm not sure if Berkeley will let you declare the major if you haven't completed the pre-reqs though.
