I am trying to transfer from UCR to UCLA as a political science major. I have a 3.84 GPA, and have finished 3/4 of the Poly Sci pre-reqs. I have also completed the 2 years of English, but have not completed the math and statistics requirements yet. I have two questions.

Will I be okay as long as I finish my math and stats requirements by spring quarter?

To what extent is the personal statement an important factor in admissions? And as a UC transfer, what should I address in the statement?

Your GPA should be very close or above a 3.75 and I would strongly recommend you finish your math requirement by this fall. You’re good with your other prereqs. Also, I’ve heard that many stats classes at other schools don’t fulfill the intro to statistical reasoning prereq at UCLA…actually most stats classes at other schools won’t fulfill this prereq.

you should be fine. I too am a poly sci major and I applied last fall for admission this upcoming fall and I got in. My GPA was like a 3.65 i think i had all but one pre req done, my math done, and my english done. Considering that my school wasnt gonna offer the poly sci class i was missing i figured i was a long shot. Nonetheless I did get in and i think it has a lot to do with the fact that my personal statements were really good (not to be cocky). Ne who at the end of the day I ended up choosing Berkeley over UCLA and I’m gonna double major in Ethnic Studies. My suggestion to u is that you look into UCLA’s poly sci program cuz when i was choosing i found out that UCLA’s program is obsolete compared to the other programs offered at different UC’s…

^ Thank you for your advice. I’ll def. look into the program.
Did you take the required statistics class as well? I don’t know if the Stats class at UCR will satisfy that requirement. And secondly, will not finishing my math by fall quarter hurt my chances?
