Sakura, do you have any suggestions for me? =/

From the appeals FAQs:
“All transfer admission is based on the completion of the major-specific preparation courses and a competitive GPA.”

So how will they explain rejecting someone with a 3.88 GPA and all major pre-reqs done? What reason can they give me? so, hmmm…because I got B’s in Geology and Computer Science during my first semester back in CC, I wasn’t competitive as a Communications major? WTH?

^^
I can see how that can be a major obstacle to overcome, but also note things that maybe you forgot to put into your application. ECs, other personal obstacles (could be family wise as well), etc. I read my friend’s appeal letter and helped her with it, and thankfully she got into Cal. Letters of recommendations are also a big plus.

Hope I helped you! [: && really, best of luck, to all of you.

Rejected
Biophysics
prereqs: 5/10 or less (I did not know about how big the prereq deal was until months after I applied; probably because no one in my college had thoughts of transferring)
I should have applied just for biology–going to appeal for that major
GPA: 3.68 time I updated, and 3.75 now.

I have a sick feeling in my stomach, but, I don’t feel too bad. As I look around to see who got accepted, I spot many 3.8+ or people with 4.0 who finished all their pre reqs. Also, since I go to a 4 year inst., community college students should definitely have the priority over me.

I’m just very happy I got into UCI. ^^
However, I’m going to go for the appeal, since the rejection might have been heavily based on the prereqs.

oh nevermind, i am rejected

Rejected

its like im going to get rejected from all four…this is sooo fckkinnnnnnn gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

^dude, i’m in the same boat as you, i realllllly hope i get into ucsd because i need to get the **** out of norcal! the sacramento area is draining the life out of me, its soooo ****ing boring here!

I got 3.81 GPA and I am rejected too…

GPA: 3.81
Major: Computer Science
College: City College of San Francisco
Pre-req: All completed
IGETC completed, No TAP (I got two honor classes though)
Work: 15h/week
Volunteer: >5h/week
Essay: ?? I don’t know, might not be strong enough…

houseinglee…i had a friend who got rejected with a 3.8 gpa because she had no EC. is that the case with you?

Hey, a lot of people say UCLA is overrated anyway. (If an acceptee comes across this, no offense!)

Remember: Don’t bRUIN your life. :)

i see what you did there :D

I appealed berkeley but I am wondering when they will post results. I am ready to join the Aggie Family at UC DAvis.

^
Freshmen? Should be this week, they said before May 1st.

I got rejected too… 3.95 GPA, coming from a CSU. Just talked to UCLA and I was rejected just because I was missing one prereq. So for all those future transfers… DO ALL THE PREREQUISITES! haa.

Oh, and I was applying for Comm.

^ ^ This is what they told me too. I was applying for Comm and had a 3.88 :(

Lame! It’s so frustrating…

REJECTED!
GPA:3.72
Major: Poli Sci
Pre-req: Missing 3 (Being a nub… didn’t know that UCB was the only one that offered rhetoric :[. had to cram up all my pre reqs last minute)
IGETC completed, No TAP
Essay: 8/10
EC: ok…
Work: alot…

rejected
gpa: 3.93
major: design media arts
pre-req: this is tricky because my school doesn’t have a lot of ucla’s classes and ucla admissions’ advice was to just take as many design/art classes as i could at school

because DMA is so impacted, i guess the whole thing came down to my portfolio not being up to standards with the increasing expectations ucla has as a result of the limited spots available

can anyone give me advice on writing an appeal for UCLA’s Design Media Arts program? I called UCLA to ask why I got rejected and they told me to contact the DMA program specifically to ask about appeals and rejection. I got this e-mail today

"Per the guidelines on the UCLA online application, a letter of appeal is sent directly to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Please note that the Design | Media Arts department received many more applications than there are spaces available. In this extremely competitive environment, many talented and successful applicants are not recommended for admission. "

I know that some people get rejected for GPA or pre-reqs and when they write appeals they mention that their GPA has improved since they applied or something else that has changed/improved since they applied. But the reason this person gives me here is very general and I’m not sure how I should approach writing the appeal. Any advice?
