<p>the acceptance rate was not "close to 10%".</p>

<p>if there are about 5000 spots for freshmen, UCLA would have to accept about 8000-9000 to ensure all those spots are taken since not everyone who is accepted actually enrolls. i'm just guessing the yield rate is around 50-60 percent. so the acceptance rate is actually closer to 20-25%.</p>
