UCLA Residence Halls -- Which one do I choose?

I just got accepted into UCLA yesterday, and I'm super happy!! I'm most probably going to stay in a residence hall, but I'm not sure which is best.

What do you guys think? Which hall is closest to campus, which hall is the party hall, which is the quietest etc.?

You should check out the housing thread, pretty much all you want to know about housing will be contained in there.

Dykstra/De Neve are the closest to campus. Dykstra is considered the most social building and I’ve heard many people say they had a good experience and a lot of fun living there.

If you want quiet, you would probably choose a suite. On the downside, they are located the farthest away from campus. Plazas with private bathrooms also offer some privacy.

I don’t think they allow you to choose the specific hall, as a freshman. Dykstra is closed down for construction. You can only choose the type of residence that you want and then UCLA randomly assigns you. I would really advise you against a suite. I lived in one my freshman year and had a plethora of problems ranging from vermin to insects to noise. It was terrible.

^Dykstra is opening fall 2013. I got a double on the 10th floor :)

^wait, how do you know your housing assignment already? I thought they came out later on. Thanks for the help!

^ That person is probably a returning student.
