Hi, I am a newly admitted transfer student at UCLA.
I declared my major as sociology when I filled out the UC application last year.
After filling out the application and taking more sociology courses in spring semester,
I realized that I do not have a strong interest in the subject.
I made a hasty decision about choosing my major.
Instead, I realized that I have an interest in psyh.
The thing is I got admitted to UCLA as a soc major, and the school does not allow me to switch my major to psyh after transferring.
Anyways,I submitted my SIR in June 1st.
But, I keep thinking about staying at CC one more year and transferring out as a psyh major.
I am still not sure wehther my interest towards psyh is something serious or I just have a fantasy about psyh because it is the subject that I cannot major in at this point.
But, one thing for sure is I lost my interest in soc, and I feel quite uncomfortable trasferring to UCLA with this major.

Do I still need to give a chance to soc?
Some of the people I talked to said,
I should just get BA in soc and get MA in subject that I truly want to study.
Anyways,
I love UCLA, but I am not excited to go there with this major.

Yes you can switch easily pretty much until the end of sophomore year. But only within Letters and Sciences, anything else will be difficult and have an application involved.

@tedders Transfer students must be admitted as Pre-Psychology majors to pursue the Psychology major at UCLA.

Well I may be a little biased but I don’t think that you should pass up the opportunity to go to UCLA.

If not, look at the required courses for the sociology major.
Sociology 1
Statistics (You can take Statistics 10, which is the same course you would take if you were a Psychology major)
Sociology 20
Sociology 101
Sociology 102
If you take Statistics 112 to fulfill your methods course, it will just be a continuation of Statistics 10 & has nothing to really do with sociology
Core:
Interactions: Sociology 132 (it is Social Psychology)
Institutions & Social Processes course
Power & Inequality course
& then you have five electives-you will probably interested in at least some of the Sociology courses. I think that you should do it and just take the psych classes you are really interested in on the side OR minor in psychology. Do what is best for you & Good luck :)

hi HeatZz , but what do you mean by finishing course requirments? Wont it be too late to change major since after finishing all the course requirments because I will be a senior by the time I will finish them. Thanks
