UCLA Summer Session

Who's ready for tomorrow? Nervous? Heading straight into the UCLA curriculum for 6 weeks is a bit daunting, but I'm sure it's good preparation for what's coming in the Fall. Let's do this!

I start on Tuesday but I got work and lab starting at 6:30 tomorrow morning! So good luck to everyone starting tomorrow!

i start tomorrow as well! i am totally nervous. i fully admit it.

i dont even know where the building is. but the whole reason i wanted to do summer session was to get this feeling out of the way before fall quarter comes along and i have three classes to deal with.

so bring it on, nerves! what what.

i am now google-mapping the best route from hollywood to school. it says santa monica to wilshire but i have a hard time believing that.

I’m in the same boat as you. 3 classes, commuting, nervous, etc. At least I’ve visited the campus a couple of times and I’ve found where I need to go, down to the classroom location. I actually dread the traffic more than the classes. People out in that area drive like lunatics.

UCSD summer sessions are 4 weeks each. I am used to 18-week semesters. This will be interesting.

Good luck tomorrow you two! Let us know how it goes!

yay first day finished! other than the fact my stupid financial aid is still “in the mail”, it went quite well. i had my class in Bunche Hall and my honors section thingy in Dodd.

such a pretty campus.

Paid my UCSD dues today.

Yeah I just got back about a half hour ago as well. The campus is extraordinary! I got everything I wanted to done today - got my textbooks, BruinCard, FlashPass, and had classes in Haines Hall and the Geology building. I think I’m gonna be losing weight this quarter, just doing the errands around campus took the breath out of me!

^ ME TOO. i consider myself an in shape individual but i swear my chest hurt after walking around for an hour. what the heck.

can you tell me how/where you got your briun card? and what a flash pass is?

First day of class went well. Ugh, first day of class and a 10 page paper is due in 3 weeks. Can’t wait for the requirements for tomorrow’s class. belkster, you also had a class in Haines Hall? It wasn’t polisci 118 in room A39, was it?

Also, Liz, you get your BruinCard at Kerckhoff Hall, room 123. I went in today to get mine, but unfortunately got there a bit late and had to wait behind a large line of high school Summer extension students.

Congrats on your first day you all! It’s over, hahaha.

& don’t worry, that “running out of breath” happens to ALL of us. I’m kind of glad I didn’t take the summer off because if Fall quarter came up…it would happen to me too. By second week you should be good and used to the walking.

Oh and Liz, the Flash pass is for the bus. Instead of paying $.35 we would simply have to show our flash pass and bruin card and then we could board the BBB and Culver City Bus. You have to pay $30 but yep! I have to go get mine tomorrow hopefully!

@belkster
Don’t tell me you’re taking Sproul and Sprouse…cause I am.

Haha I’m taking Sproul for Econ 11 in Haines Hall and Moazzami for Math 61 in the Geology building.

I’ve been on campus since last week. I’m doing research in the dept of neurobio. I already feel at home! Though I wish I was taking a class…

^
Wow! You’re a go-getter, haha! I have some friends who work in the Neurobio department! Who’s your PI?!

…wait, so are you considered a volunteer or something?

I’m considered staff for the summer because I’m funded by URC-CARE for the time-being. Hopefully i’ll continue to get funded for as long as possible because I’m working in a pretty awesome lab.
My PI is Dr. Marie-franciose Chesselet and her lab is the Center for Parkinson’s Disease Research

can u pick up bruin id card before the orientation?

^
Yes you can, but there’s a long line.

@nooriebee Ohh…so you’re not technically in Neurobiology, MF is just using Neurobiology to get you hired, because she’s the chair of that department, lol. You’re actually in Neurology. But I’m jealous that you get a School of Medicine ID badge, haha. Actually I get mine tomorrow…LOL.

How do you come to be so knowledgable about these things?
