UCLA Supplemental Information

can we still send an update of stuff? like club stuff/achievements, etc?

well i think at this point your decision has already been made unless you got a supplement app. I'm not sure but if they didnt request anymore information I dont think anything else you send in will really change your admission decision unless you found a new form of cancer or something

wow, how did u know that i found a new form of cancer? lol...
it's called senioritis and it's the first form of contagious cancer :)

if it says "by a certain date" like by the 20th does it mean i have to submit it on the 19th or i can submit it on the 20th thanks!

i think 20th before midnite

hey confused junior what are ur stats if i may ask?

is anyone having trouble sending their questionnaire in?

Wow, I just read this entire thread, I was sort of worried since I thought I was borderline (or just plain, not a snowball's chance in hell) but now I'm really glad they didn't ask for a supplemental (or maybe I didn't get it ._.) considering I got a C in calc.

If anyone cares, my stats are 3.9-4(?) weighted gpa, 2140 SAT, 660, 720 SAT II, little ecs, okay essay.

hahah i dunno. its a huge difference betwee a 3.9-4.0 w and a 4.0 w and above as in acceptance percentages.

what the heck you guys, how is a 3.9 and 2140 "not a snowball's chance in hell?"
This cc board is getting really ridiculous. Or, our year's paranoia has reached a new irritating height.

its not. but only 11 percent of applicants with a 3.7-3.99 w made it to la and cal while 51 percent made it with a 4.0 w and above. The prob is with LA's holistic admission approach to the "borderline" group and teh fact the poster said him/her ecs were weak and her essays only medicore could have hurt him/her. but who knows i could be completley wrong adn someone will ding me on it soon

You can't base your opinion on "nah, 3.9 GPA acceptance rate is way less than 4.0 and above." You have to keep in mind that those above 4.0 people may also have had great SAT scores as well, and those 4.0 people also may have had the motivation to do well in other aspects of their application.

Yes, I know that the UCLA admissions site does state a 51.6% vs. 11.22% admit rate for >4.0 GPAs and <3.9 GPAs, but one can't just dismiss someone's admissions chances solely from their GPA. SATs, ECs, essays also count as well.

also let's think about this rationally: a 4.0 and a 4.3 won't have the same chances. That 51.6% is an arbitrary group that was defined solely for the purposes of statistics. So within each range, of course it's still different depending on where you stand. So a 3.9 and 4.0 won't be that different because even though they belong in different categories, their respective chances won't be the same as that of the average of their categories because they are both extremes in their classes.

Charisma: what do you mean by little EC's? any leaderships? and why do you think your essays are weak?

lol you all misunderstood me. Student113 was asking why ppl would think Charisma's chances were low and i was explaining how her GPA being below a 4.0 w and with UCLA saying 3.7-3.99 w gpa range accepts only 11 percent may have something to do with why people would think that.

I definitely think Charisma has a shot seeing i have a 3.8 w and a 2140 as well and ppl told me im 50 50 to get in. But things like family income, strength of exc's, rigor of schedule, how difficult/recognized one's hs is by the UC's, and strength of essays will all be big factors for the 2nd grouping and we know none of that for Charisma so its hard to say anything

haha well, in context of the conclusion we got from this forum, since he/she didn't get a supplement, he/she should be accepted because those stats are definitely not BELOW borderline.

hahha look at last years acceptance/rejection forum...quite a few ppl with higher stats then you, me, and Charisma got rejected. And im talking about ppl with 4.0's and 2200+'s. So it is really unpredictable, and I think this year those who are in the middle group, Extracurriculars/essay will play a big role.

^ True. Holistic admissions does wonders for randomness.

I guess people with those stats would choose UCLA only as a safety and UCLA wouldn't want to accept too many of those ..

hahahah i guess. at the same time i didnt see to many sub 4.0 w gpas post acceptances either but oh well : )

o_0, woah, I caused a lot of controversy.

The main reason why I don't think I'll be accepted is my rather low GPA because there's supposed to be a much higher weight put upon GPA than SAT scores (and my SAT II scores are a tad low). Also, really my only ec was FBLA in junior year, I didn't hold a position, but I did place 3rd in 2 events statewide (in KS, so not exactly that impressive considering the pop.).

"Not a snowball's chance in hell" was exaggeration, but I don't think that I am in that likely to get in considering the caliber of applicants I've seen. My stats aren't by any means terrible, but other than that, I don't think that there is anything that would make me stand out enough.

And to finish the he/she, I'm a chick (and instate in case KS made you think otherwise)
