UCLA Supplemental Information

^ Guys, don't freak out :-) Re-read the post: BoelterHall said that the SAT I was considered "lightly" LAST YEAR because it was the first year with the new format.

I'd like to take this time to remind some posters that there are in fact moderators reading many of these threads.

Cool it.

i got the supplemental request too! im actually kind of relieved because i thought UCLA was way out my reach. now at least i know im being considered.

so how come only my response to him was deleted? not his attacks on me?

Yes, you are right. Jinobi is talking about engineering, though, which doesn't belong in CofL&S.

Can anyone confirm this? I keep hearing that too but wouldn't people in underrepresented majors (e.g. Southeast Asian Studies, Women's Studies, Scandinavian Studies, etc.) be more desirable? They do want to continue these programs, right?

Major plays no role in admission to L&S.

"For the College of Letters and Science, the applicant’s major is not considered during the review process."

hahahah. its just about another month..no point in wondering what is what anymore since most of our decisions are already probabyl made..

Boelter: Where did you hear that SAT Is were only factored in very lightly? I thought SAT IIs were considered more only if they had pertinence to your major.

And also, can anybody confirm the SAT I not being weighted that much thing?

[/quote]

If everyone who wondered about this read my post carefully .. my post stated that this was true only for the Class of '10.

HOWEVER, IT WOULD CHANGE THIS YEAR OF COURSE.

As for SAT II, the school requires taking one of the sciences SAT IIs (and recommending taking more than 1) along with IIC, so of course it is definitely taken more into consideration than the others.

I THOUGHT THE MAJOR DIDN"T MATTER in letters and science!!!

We're going to start tallying up the # of times 'flong freaks out about his status and his microsoft internship' and the # of times 'this major question has been asked'!!!!!

wow who is this "flong" character u speak of?? :P

Let's..... :p

flong

OMG reading that made me so nervous!

"hahahah. its just about another month..no point in wondering what is what anymore since most of our decisions are already probabyl made.."

So the purpose of this supplemental application is for UCLA to make a selection based on the "borderline" or low-stat people they have to admit?

basically, yeah, just pple that are in that middle range cuz there's so many of them

nah only the "weaker" ppl in the middle range probably got this supplement app. Alot of the ppl that got them had fairly low stats in one area (gpa or Sat) and they probably wanted to see extra info to see why ur grades were low/first semester grades or why should they keep you in the middle group. And its also jsut an easy way for them to eliminate some extra applicants based on grades.

*sigh, so long UCLA, it was nice knowing u

flong... stop making things up. you're confusing people and stressing them out even more.

no..thats what flopsy told me lol

Mostly correct, but somewhat confusing to others. Your last point is worth pointing out.

Some students for some reason start dropping their AP courses (or any courses) for the second semester. Quite odd since I'm sure everyone knows that you should not drop any courses reported on the application.

Negative points for those who did this and got the supplemental. But mostly people who receive this supplemental request is a chance to contest the below average grades/scores, but this student shows promise and potential of success at UCLA.

yup. I guess they have a few kinks to work out on their new holistic admissions. oh well, im happy 2.5 hours of House with friends=heaven
