Hello everyone !!! I would always read discussions over the years and finally would like to share my story. This is my second time applying to UCLA. This time i had applied as a transfer. I was rejected. Oddly enough I was also rejected from UCSB in which was my TAG school. I thought it was strange. So i called and they informed me that I didn’t meet the requirements. Apparently I was missing like 6-8 units. I thought this was also strange because I am graduating with 62 this spring. My summer grades were missing ! 9 units, three classes, in which were all A’s. After, I immediately called UCLA and both schools advised me to appeal. I also added other information that had happen to me last year that I thought was essential and new information. I plan on sending in my appeal right now!
@vanter101 Make sure those are UC TRANSFERABLE UNITS, not just units.
You can log in to assist.org and download the agreement between each school with UCLA. For example, I studied at Evergreen and San Jose City, they are sister schools. But For UCLA, Theatre 040 Film Art from Evergreen is not UC transferable whereas it will be if coming from SJCC. SO I cannot count it into the 60 transferable units even though it is calculated for IGETC certificate (since this is EVC certificate based on CA contract). However, I took 125 units, and only 77 are UC transferable after checking 2 agreements from two CCC I enrolled. And one funny thing that, some classes I took for a local degree, but it is UC transferable while some courses fulfill IGETC but not transferable.
Hey guys! For those that called and were told some possible reasons why you were rejected, how did you initiate the conversation? Did you ask to speak to an “admissions officer” for your college (I applied as an EE and I think the college of engineering reads our apps) or did you just ask the person who picked up? Thank you in advance!
hello @Bibihcmvn so when I was on the phone with UCSB they had put hose classes in and they were in fact UC transferable. Same with UCLA.
@trasferhopeful2018 so when I called, I went straight to undergraduate admissions and asked there.
Hello Everyone! Just wanted to check in and see how you guys are doing with your appeals. Are you making progress? Did you already send yours in? Let me know! I’m really interested how everyone is doing and I think we should keep each other informed during every step of this process.
im probably gonna submit my appeal tonight but i dont even have a shred of hope that it will be granted lmao. i was so sad (sorry not trying to sound dramatic or ungrateful) when i had to send my SIR to berkeley. ucla has always always ALWAYS been my dream school, without it my life is Bruined jk ;(
Are appeals telling them why we should be admitted? Or providing new information and explaining how we’re better then originally thought?
@vanter101 Wish you all the best.
@joseph590 i talked to one of my professors and he told me he has heard several success stories of appeal. They want new and compelling information that will make you stand out. That will make you shine. I find saying something unique about yourself and something that not a lot of people do or say can help you
@vanter101 that is good, I didn’t try to up-sell myself more then saying how I thought my information made me prepared for the college. I was reading some old appeal threads and saw some sucessfully sold themselves to the college and I was concerned.
I keep re writing my appeal but I’m 742 characters over idk how to get rid of the extra words they all seem important idk
@UniCoIn the entire 7000 characters is one LONG letter. I’m sure there’s something you can cut out.
@Unicoln I would suggest rewriting/rewording phrases then and cutting out any remaining philosophical fluff you may have. Reading previous appeals the best appeals are ones that clearly state the information and tell how its impacted their academics.
I agree with @Joseph590 too long going on and on without cutting to the chase can work against you.
@Joseph590 & @Ohm888 thanks guys I think I’m just overthinking it as well I’m going to re write another one to see
Currently working on my appeal. Good luck to all of you working on yours as well!
Submitted mine a few days ago. Does anyone know when we should expect a response, I’m expecting after 6/1 but how far into June?
Anyone else having a hard time on what to write about? So many people have looked at my application and didn’t know what was wrong. And even the women in the UCLA admissions office couldn’t tell me why I was rejected but only that there was a “high number of applications.”
@pbbunny97 just write about any new information with grades or obstacles that you did not include
