Ucsd muir dorms vs ucla classic residence hall dorms. Factors include size, food, cleansiness, etc. Thanks for all replies!
Don’t know much about UCLA dorms. Muir has a pretty unique setup in its residence halls, Tioga and Tenaya. They’re divided into “houses” of two floors each. These floors are connected by spiral staircases in the common areas. The center of each floor has a common area with suites on either side. Each suite has another common area and two (ID + passcode-locked) hallways. One hallway is a girls’ suite, the other is a guys’ suite, each with its own set of bathrooms. At the end of each hallway is a study room (in Tioga these may face the ocean, which is why it’s considered better). The halls are very clean (housekeeping comes every week). The bathrooms are just okay. This setup is overall very conducive to socializing, and even though I was a Revelle student I found it very easy to make new friends when I visited old ones in Muir. The dorm rooms are fairly large, possibly the largest on campus, and two years ago there were a decent number of singles. In your second year, if you choose to live on campus, you would live in the Tamarack or Tuolomne Apartments. Tamarack is two new high-rises which feel like a luxury hotel.
As far as food goes, the Muir dining hall Pines is considered pretty good. It’s got decent variety and good food at a low cost. If you get bored, there is a vegan dining hall called Roots located below this. There are two convenience stores (Middle of Muir and John’s Market), three coffee stands (Art of Espresso and the convenience stores), and many restaurants in the old student center in Muir (Hi Thai, Food Co-Op, Taco Villa). Main Gym, which is the smaller gym on campus, the Rec Gym, and many tennis and basketball courts are also located nearby. Overall, Muir College is considered one of the best places to live at UCSD.
