Does anyone know someone who got into UCLA communications w/o TAP? My current CCC does not have TAP with UCLA, so i'm debating whether i should change CCC for this reason.

yeah, you definitely should change.

only if u feel like you absolutely must attend UCLA...if its totally your dream school...

otherwise..just get a high gpa and your options will still be open to other schools and ucla may still accept you....

Go to CAL.
So, no, don't change to another CCC.

NO.

Comm studies DOESN'T consider TAP oficially. It'll look good, because anything extra looks good, but you WILL NOT get priority consideration or the extra point on your application.

I found this out AFTER I was TAP certified and was counting on it helping. I got in anyway, but I do wish I would have known beforehand so that I wouldn't have been so concerned with TAP. It's a good program, and I would have done it regardless, but I certainly wouldn't have changed schools for it.

Also, I'm sure you know this, but for Comm make sure that your GPA is above 3.8 (or as close to it as possible) and make sure you've completed as many of the 7 major pre-reqs as your school offers.

That's the absolute biggest factor.

Tap is just icing on the cake after that, and not necessary.

allie, why is comm studies the only exception to the TAP?
what makes it so special?

Comm studies is the most selective major in L&S and is the only major that makes admissions decisions within its own office. Everything for comm is completely seperate and lots of seperate rules apply for comm that don't apply for other L&S majors.

ah i see :)
Glad Business Economics don't abide to that rule YET, but I'm sure it will start doing it someday ;)

thanks everyone.

hey allie, but from another thread you wrote that the more impacted a major is the more TAP mattered , which is why i thought about changing CCC.

Nah, bus econ can accommodate a lot more people than comm can so I don't think it will ever become as impacted. Comm is so selective because they purposely designed the department to be very, very small. The 70-90 people they accept are literally all the program can handle since there are so few classes and professors in the department.

oh i see, thanks.

This is true, but not for Comm.

Like I said- it looks good. But it won't influence their decision, at all. It's not worth changing schools unless you really have a desire to become TAP certified.

You'll find that Comm is an exception for lots of rules during the transfer process.
