@heyhowareYou2019 I think your question is a fair one. We are CT residents, and at least in our perspective, we feel that UCONN is one of the top education values in the northeast among state schools. I think of UCONN above Umass (so does US News), way above UMaine/UNH/URI/UVM. Binghamton is arguably a tougher school to get into for NY, but one can argue that UConn is a more well rounded school (campus, facilities, sports, college experience).
As CT residents, we’ve all known our entire lives how hard it is to get into UCONN for CT residents because of the tremendous value for the money.
As for out of state residents, I would think kids looking to:
A) Get out of their state, yet go to a great school
B) Want the larger school feel, without the enormous school feel
C) Perhaps they are into Agriculture, Nursing, or many other programs UConn leads in
D) They may like a “country” feel, as Storrs CT is in the middle of farm land and rural area.
E) Big college basketball fans
Unlike schools like UNC, where people want to go there for the weather and the beautiful campuses, I think UConn is more likely to get merit money. UNC only allows about 7-10% in from out of state and standards are super high. UConn is 40% out of state or so.
