I am a college sophomore looking to transfer for the fall. I graduated High School with a 3.97 and 98 average. I got a 1790 on my SATs. I have been attending Binghamton University. Leaving Binghamton is practically suicide as far as it being a fantastic school; it's incredibly selective. I know it's stupid to leave it, but I just don't like the distance from home (I live in Fairfield County in CT).

Basically, I'm trying to find a reputable school closer to home (within two hours). My average GPA at Binghamton was a 3.05 (it's a tough school, don't judge).

I'm looking at UCONN, Rutgers, SUNY New Paltz and possibly others including Ramapo. I am an Environmental Studies/Conservation Biology major.

If anyone knows about these schools or has other suggestions that would be great! Price is a big deal with my family, so if you know great public schools that would help as well.

I would love to attend ESF but it's so far from home.

You’d get instate tuition for UCONN, so the money is less of a problem there. New Paltz is the same as Bing as far as tuition. Rutgers is very expensive for OOS (I didn’t even bother applying because of it).

I understand what you mean about the distance thing, I live on Long Island and its a 4-6 hour drive depending on traffic (and driving through the city always means traffic). I wouldn’t give up Bing for that though, but that’s my decision. If UCONN has a decent program for ES, I would look at that because of the instate thing.

Wow, you got into Binghamton with a 1790? I hope you realize students who are instate with just as good a gpa as you and 2000 SAT scores get rejected from Binghamton. Great for you, but so unfair to instate students. If you want to be closer to home , UConn seems like the obvious answer. I would not even consider Rutgers, overpriced and bad area.

Well part of the reason I was leaving Binghamton is due to my health. I’ve got some medical issues that require me to be closer to home.

And, wow, thanks for the insult LizzyB. SATs aren’t everything, you know. I gave up on Rutgers, for I was starting to lean towards an argument you gave. It doesn’t seem like the nicest area…and I don’t think I would want to be in a city anyway.

If you’re thinking Environmental Studies, I’d recommend you check us out here at Stony Brook. (Full disclosure: Obviously, I’m biased.) Info here:
