UCSB Admission - Class of 2022

@seniorrrr2018 i applied as undeclared (college of letters and science)

While it may true the UC system banned affirmative action; the check boxes are still there on the apps., for unsuspecting student to check - from ethnicity to religion to gender and everything in between

@JaqueBear being In-State is prolly why you didnā€™t get in. Your stats are very good so donā€™t be discouraged by the result. I think it is because they realize how easy it is for people to go to a Comm. College for 2 years then transfer to a good UC afterward in the state of California.

@whatcollege2022 Awwww thank you for your nice words. I was working this afternoon when the glitch was happening but I am looking forward to seeing a possible acceptance which will save me from going to community college. Lol

Although Affirmative action is banned, the colleges promote diversity. For diversityā€™s sake, they rather pick other ethnicity than Asian applicants who are way too many. This is probably why some Asians are rejected while other ethnic applicants are accepted although stats are comparable.

@whatcollege2022 except nobody genuinely wants to go to cc lol

@JaqueBear from your college list I am assuming you are not a first gen college goer in your family. The UCā€™s are trying hard to create balanced campuses that include students who havenā€™t had as many opportunities.

@ucplsacceptme i mean, in my state, alot of people choose the route even after getting into the desired college. It saves money and most of the classes you take as a freshman and sophomore are not much different from the classes you take at a community college. You might not want to go to a cc, but financial circumstances are a big influence in peoplesā€™ decisions. I would imagine this is the case for California residents as well.

When you canā€™t concentrate on hw cuz decisions come out tmr :((

@CopperlineX2 wow I am actually a first generation student. My dad attended no college and dropped out from high school. My mom didnā€™t go to college until 5 years later when she went to a 2 year Program at an unknown institution in China. She has no college Diploma.

@JaqueBear You had me all worried when you had UCSC in your back pocket this whole time? Why would you go to CC? No matter what happens with UCSB and UCI, UCSC is a fantastic school!

@CopperlineX2 My family income is pretty low, and I donā€™t want my parents to pay off all the money for me going to an unsatisfactory school, since CC does provide the same general education for me as the other UCs, as it has been mentioned.

before decisions come out tomorrow and this post gets buried:

I got off the waitlist last year and I am currently attending UCSB. I HIGHLY suggest appealing your waitlist decisions it significantly increases your chances. I wrote mine about speech and debate and how I did after I submitted my application but just find SOMETHING to write about and be proactive. AS FOR PEOPLE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR ADMITTANCE BEING ā€œCHANGED.ā€ One of my friends is a tour guide and said they had to write postcards two weeks ago to everyone admitted inviting them to tour the campus; acceptances wonā€™t change. SB has had their list of admitted students for a while now and it is set in stone so do not worry. Good luck tomorrow!

@am013384 wow I have psych as my second choice! My stats are also very similar but my W gpa and SAT is a bit higher. Same UW though. I hope I get in!!! Also got denied at UCSD. Waitlisted @ UW Seattle which is my dream school and SB is my second choice. Also missed this whole portal window thing that happened which Iā€™m so upset about. Good luck to everyone!!

oh dear! im not getting into UCSB, I know it!

Ugh Iā€™m stressed

I am pretty sure I am getting rejected. The UCs are ridiculously competitive this year.

ACT: 26, my highest score was a 29, but I took that one without writing (IK stupid)

GPA (W)= 4.3

lots of EC, Teen conservation leader at Monterey Bay Aquarium, volunteer at hospital, and around the community

essays were decent

I am SO SO worried becauseā€¦

Rejected: UC Davis and UCSD

Accepted: LMU and UC Merced

any opinions on whether Iā€™ll get in?

Would I be able to get into med school if I went to UC Merced? For some reason, the school is talked down on

@bluandwaves15 whatever college you go to does not matter. What you learned in college (classes that is for med school), matters. THE MCAT IS LITERALLY THE TEST TO GET INTO MED SCHOOL, Who cares what school you went to for undergrad, as long As you pass the MCAT, youā€™re good.

@bluandwaves15 your gpa and mcat test scores are most important for med school. Merced is a good school so donā€™t worry about that. I think people just give it a hard time because itā€™s in Merced and not a beautiful beach town.
