UCSB Admission - Class of 2022

For engineering undeclared (possible bio?) what are the pros and cons of the following schools (not rankings or hearsay)?

  • UCLA w/ regents
  • UCB (I live in the area and I think I don’t want to go here)
  • Harvey Mudd (waaaay more expensive)
  • Smith (30k cheaper than mudd)
  • Cal poly
  • UCSB CCS math (How easy is it to switch between CCS majors? To switch to engineering?)

I get that this is a ucsb forum and I probably won’t get most of the answers I’m looking for, but I figured I’d go fishing

@Auracle Go with UCLA Regents (as did my daughter 3 years ago). You will not regret!
(I guess I told you this before?)

Thanks @uclaparent9

@auracle I was just talking to the dad of a Cal Poly SLO bioengineering senior and he was talking about all the awesome projects he’s doing on campus, including growing skin in a lab and making a prosthetic leg for a guy so he could ride his bike. He had great things to say about the program.

(My son is going to Cal Poly next year in a different engineering field)

Appeal to UCSB Accepted, Computer Science xD

@dreambig18 You have to access it via the portal.

I still haven’t gotten my acceptance package? Is there anything I can do?

@brasiliana7 Congrats! When did you send in your appeal and when did you find out you were accepted? Thanks for the 411!

Congrats @brasiliana7 ! Do you mind sharing when you sent the appeal and when you were accepted? As well as what you mentioned in it? Thank you

I appealed as well, when are you suppose to hear back? And what did you appeal on?

@Auracle The CS 16 and 24 classes are infamous for having waitlists of 200 students long. It is all complete luck.

Jk I got my acceptance package just now. Literally so underwhelming, even my local schools sent better ones

@lostinthestars does your portal show that your appeal has been received?

@HopefulOne2000 @oliverhannaoui and @lostinthestars , sorry for the late reply,

I sent in my appeal in the mail on April 2nd, and it showed up on my portal as being received on April 5th. The next day I checked and it said I was admitted? I was like oh wow that’s not the speed I was expecting there, but no complaining there.
I just really talked about my passion for Computer Science. That’s the major I really wanted, so I talked about different life experiences I have had, as in applying for high positions in my school or clubs I was a part of, and showed not only my successes but many failures but what I did about it. I was straightforward and said that I really just wanted to go to UC Santa Barbara for Computer Science, and said that I would keep trying even if it meant transferring or whatever. Just being really straightforward and such.

I hear that you’re SUPPOSED to hear back like second week of May or something like that. Being because the college wants to see what their class sizes are looking like and stuff like that.

Also, something I would have done is add in more physical evidence of my accomplishments. Like I wouldn’t say a huge package, but I have read online of successful appeals including pictures of accomplishments, and stuff like that making it all the more personal.

Hopefully this helps,

Brasiliana7

Hi! Is anyone applying to CCS after their acceptance? Is there any tips for applying to CCS or does anyone know the acceptance rate or anything?

@eeeusernameeee are we still able to? I wanted to but the website wasn’t letting me!

@DDclass2018 sorry for the overdue reply. i just talked to my school counselor and she told me if you dont have any info on financial aid, its because the school did not recieve the fasfa information. i logged into my fasfa and realized that i had not checked ucsb at all. but its not too late to send your fasfa to sb; all you do is add ucsb and submit.

@brasiliana7 Did you appeal after getting rejected or waitlisted?
