Firstly, congratulations to everyone!! For those of you who were admitted, did your status change on the UCSB portal to “Accepted?”

I can also say that everyone who gets the invitation has been admitted. They had all of us stand up and we were told we were in, it was such an exciting moment! The chancellor then congratulated us and he has a great sense of humor, and all faculty members are very friendly and talk to you before the reception. As for regents, they had red ribbons with their name tags. No word on honors, but hoping they send that with the financial aid packet. They showed us a video and it made me fall in love with the school even more, and the student-faculty question and answer panel is very helpful. Congratulations to all! I’m so happy, it’s been my dream to go here since my freshman year.

At San Jose reception now. All accepted. Top 1% was not mentioned. Don’t know where that came from. I’m excited for my son.

Honors would not be announced today. Will be in notification portal on March 15-17. Status of acceptance most likely will not change until then.

if one student can has maximum two companies, I would say there are about 800 to about 1,250 students there.

I think about 250-300 students there today. Not all receptions are guaranteed acceptance. They did clarify that you won’t know if you got your major of choice until official notifications are online March 15. Apparently they cannot “officially” send out notifications until them per UC rules. Not sure why but that was mentioned. Stats mentioned by admissions staff.

I’d say close to 300 students there in San Jose.

@SoCalDad2 um. no…

^^^ One percent of 80,000 is 800. Spread across eight receptions, that is 100 students per reception. If every student in the top 1% showed up.

Seems likely roughly the top 10% were invited. Say, 8000 invited, 2500 attended, or 300 per reception.

I got mine but wasn’t able to go. It was supposedly today in San Jose but I had a model un conference and had to miss it. Does this mean I am in though? Does anyone who went to the sj one know if u all got in?

@mf18233…Yes …all got in.

@SoCalDad2 I agree likely the top 10% were invited, and I think I remember reading that the Honors program is the top 10% of either enrolled or admitted students, so there is likely some correlation even if it isn’t exact. However, I was assuming the receptions in CA would be significantly bigger than those in other places, and was thinking the 1% was ‘possible’ if unlikely, until someone mentioned the number who attended today.

Maybe Regents were the top 1%…

@jeannelacelle it is interested you said decisions would be on the portal March 15-17, their website says 17, but sometimes the UCs release before the day. I didn’t know UCSB might though. But some others are planning to release the 15th as I understand it, so maybe their date was approximate?

Also attended San Jose reception. Very nice. So excited to hear that all the students were accepted. I did not hear the figure of 1% but it could be reasonable- 6,700 out of 67.000 applicants. Very large room was packed but parents far outnumbered students. No mention of Honors. I was told that some students there may end up being offered alternate major ( engineering.) Check portal on March 17th.

I was literally like the only one who drove myself to the reception, so it was a little awkward talking to the professors one on one. But anyways, it was awesome. UCSB wasn’t my top choice, but they certainly left a very good impression, and, for now, I guess I’ll have to say I’ve converted :-D.

I cannot attest to this being 100% accurate. I can only say what was told to me and others at the scholarship table. There were only six receptions and only four of the six were announcing guaranteed admission, as previous years where not all receptions guaranteed acceptance (therefore those students would clearly NOT be in the top of anything). Of the four that students were invited to where an announcement was made, these students were supposedly in the “top 1%.” But perhaps they were referring to those whose child was a regent scholar. It is really irrelevant and not sure why anyone would bicker about it but I do know that those of our students who were regents scholars were notified by mail previously and given a special ribbon today. Honors will not be announced until posted on the website around March 15-17. Financial awards notices will be mailed on March 19th. And again, just to clarify, acceptance into the first choice major will not be known until the portal gives official notification (along with honors also). Hope that helps <3 Congrats to all, what an accomplishment for students and the parents that support them. I have three children graduating from high school - practically living on my computer :)

@collegevetting - not sure. We have already heard from three UC’s :)

Congratulations @jeannelacelle ! I have twins graduating myself, but THREE!! I am very impressed!

Okay, now am unsure again! There are 5 locations listed on invite - 3 in California. So, am wondering if all California invites are accepted, plus another location? Or does it depend upon which exact invite you were issued? Aarrgghh. Daughter tried again to RSVP this afternoon, but still unavailable (tried three times between last Wednesday and today) for either Irvine or LA.

Is the Chancellor attending all of them?

Last time at all the ones in CA people were told they were admitted but at the one in Chicago that did not happen. On the other hand, for Pete’s sake, the one in Irvine is two days before UCSB will announce ALL admits, and the one in L.A. is the day before. I would think they would know at this stage who their top admits were.

As for the out of state ones, some of those are AFTER the admissions will be announced. Are those the ones where there will be no announcement? Because… duh.
