@CCuser27 Will do.

@iLoveUCs UCSB weights academics 1/2 and other factors 1/2. They target the well rounded, involved student particularly. Clearly there are academic lines you can’t get below, but once you are in range, the other factors can make you a top applicant. I believe major and diversity can count in the mix, as well.

Strangely my Son got the Regents Scholarship to UCSB, but no invitation to the Chancellor’s Reception.

My D got it yesterday in the mail for Orange county CA.

My D has been recruited by the track team but also a high achiever. She was told already that she is in. She is just waiting to see if she got the regent scholar award.

@rgosula I am glad to hear that. That is so obviously out of whack that it gives me hope that my other son may also have an invitation still in the mail.

I did notice they went through Santa Clarita to get to Los Angeles, which is a detour, to put it mildly.

Are you located a long ways from any of the receptions?

1.5 hours drive.
Maybe my son is just not organized with this stuff…too many colleges, EC’s and School, girlfriend, to deal with.
So does it arrive by email or regular mail? Whoever got regents, is it before or after getting regents?

My S got regents package on Friday and chancellor’s Reception invitation yesterday in regular mail.

Would regent package receivers mind posting some stats?

Does anyone know if they are even sending reception invitations to people in the Midwest this year? Probably not.

We also are a 1.5 hour drive from the nearest reception (in So Cal), and also have received no invitation even though our son was offered Regents last week.

Son got Regents packet last week and Chancellor invite in mail yesterday - envelope was also messed up as mentioned above.

My D got the invitation to San Jose reception. Could anybody tell us what to expect from it, how useful it is for either informational purposes or for increasing the chances to be admitted? Or are all those invited to that reception are usually already admitted students (if so, why the University doesn’t let us know that already, more straightforwardly? ;))

@Daisy1996 the alumn list does show a reception in Chicago, however, it seems like the Chancellor is not attending that one so it may not have the same implications about acceptance (assuming history runs true at those in California.) Last year not all those who attended in Chicago ended up being accepted. Then again, that dinner was much earlier in the admissions cycle last time. This time it will be AFTER admissions are announced on March 17.

@myau I suspect the early announcement is payment for your giving them a block of time to pitch your student to enroll.

if an invitations means that you are in and that you are in Honors, here is a description of the program, benefit, requirements etc…
<a href=“Honors Program | Division of Undergraduate Education - UC Santa Barbara”>Honors Program | Division of Undergraduate Education - UC Santa Barbara;

Found this on the website at UCSB…staying in the Honors program is no easy feat

In order to continue in the Honors Program:

You must have completed at least two academic honors experiences in the previous academic year.
You must have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 in the previous academic year.

Academic honors experiences (irrespective of unit value) include successful completion of:

Any honors section*
Any honors contract
Any honors seminar
Any class automatically granted honors credit (a complete list of these courses can be found here).

*Note: An honors section taken in conjunction with a regular discussion section counts as 1 honors experience (i.e. EARTH 30H + EARTH 30). You must earn satisfactory grades in both the honors section and in the discussion section to earn 1 honors experience.

I think if you had a choice to take an honors section, you’d want to, in any event. The gpa does mean you have to be a serious student to stay in, clearly. That is higher than some programs, no question.

I got the invite!!! so happy! So excited to have ucsb as an option :D
