@805Mommp unless they change things this year, nothing will show on your portal until they announce admissions on March 19.
Did anyone get a Regents invitation yet?
Sibling got the Chancellor invite Does this mean they’ve been accepted?
@LovingLive2023 You worded your summary and question perfectly.
For your summary, I’d say:
- yes
- yes
- yes
For your question, I have been trying to figure out the very same thing, and here are my thoughts:
I THINK the answer is “b”. Some (not all) of those who have received chancellor’s may also get regents (maybe next week?).
Do others agree my interpretation is correct?
Did anyone from Florida receive the invitation? Or is it impossible for people living too far way from the locations of receptions to get one?
@Davidsks I didn’t see this year’s invite but traditionally they have offered receptions in NY and DC but not FL.
I think only people close to the receptions get it.
@LovingLive2023 Your third point isn’t quite right, Regents is offered to the top 2% of accepted students not applicants (so around 600 people).
On your question, last year the Regents letter included the reception invite as they were sent out at the same time (so the answer was b). This year it seems the Regents has not been sent at the same time, so we don’t know if it will be a or b. But I’d guess a, since the receptions will fill up and they presumably would like the prospective Regents scholars to attend. Although they might decide to take a completely different tack this year and have a Regents only reception.
I have a question. If chancellors invite is given to top 15% of applicants and regents constitute the top 2%, isn’t that assumed that those who receive chancellors (2% of them) are by default regents invitees as well? Unless regents is considered based on some other factors. Pls correct me if I’m wrong.
In other words , are there students who received only the regents invite but not the chancellors ?
@Suave123 Thanks for continuing to try to figure this out. I don’t know the answer and am wondering the same thing…
“In other words, are there students who received only the regents invite but not the chancellors ?”
All prospective Regents scholars will be invited to attend a Chancellor’s reception. However it appears that the Regents scholars packets had not yet been sent (as of Friday). So it is unclear if those prospective Regents scholars will receive two separate letters (Chancellor’s invite last week, followed by Regents packet this week) or if they just have to wait for the Regents packet to get their reception invite. Last year everything was sent at the same time, so things are being done differently this year.
It doesn’t seem likely to me that “all Regents scholars would be invited to a Chancellor’s reception,” because UCSB only invites students in “select regions” to the Chancellor’s reception. If a prospective Regents scholar lived in a city that wasn’t in one of those select regions (say Phoenix?), they should still qualify to be a prospective Regents scholar.
Yes the Regents qualification doesn’t depend on where you live. Last year the Regents package included an invitation to attend any of the receptions. Of course that might not be feasible if you don’t live near enough.
Didn’t see this thread until this morning.
Orange County, 1540 SAT, 3.9 UW, 4.6 W, received the Chancellor’s Invite last week in the mail.
Will see you all at the Newport Marriott!
@Suave123 yes to your answer above. my child a few years ago did NOT get the snail mail chancelors invite, but yes, got the Regents package and acceptance. I was under the impression you get Chancellor invite or Regents (which might include something to go to a reception), but not both.
@NewPoster123 Thanks for ur reply. Are u saying that those who received chancellor’s invite now may not receive regents?
Can anyone tell me what’s written on the mail? I am pretty sure my son received an letter from UCSB last week , but thought it is an information session for every applicant. He misplaced the letter. Do we have to attend this event ?
Never mind. We didn’t get the invitation.
I’ve read threads about regents students at the receptions receiving a red ribbon on their name tags upon check in. Was this a surprise to them at the time, or had they already been notified?
