ucsb email

Did everyone receive the UCSB Chancellor's Reception invitation e-mail? I'm just curious as to whether or not it's a standard message that goes to all applicants or if it is a good sign.

I didn't...

When did you get it?

I got one. The email says:

However, they were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in certain regions.

My stats:
-4.17 uc gpa.
-2130 sat
-elc student
-varsity cross country/track co-captain

I'm asking the same question as well.

Damn. So does that mean I have less of a chance?
My UC GPA is 4.17 as well and I got 1990 on the SATs.

i got it about an hour ago.

my basic stats...
4.0 uc gpa
2280 SAT
300 hrs volunteer

hmm i just want to know if it really goes to the "highest achieving applicants" or if they just say that.

What does it say? Does it imply that you're in for sure?

no it doesnt imply that. it just invites you to some like get-to-know ucsb thing in march and there is an FAQ kind of thing and like runnerkid said it says "However, they were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in certain regions." after, it also says this does not mean we have been admitted. maybe everyone will end up getting it...

haha, finally there's a thread about this. i was anticipating it =).

if it's Chancellor Yang's reception where you have to make a reservation then it's the same one i got last year:

it's only sent to top certain % of the applicants who've been admitted (i forgot how many % get it). if u do some searching on this forum u'll find threads about this invitation thing from previous years.

i got one last year around this time. you should be getting the invitation in the mail as well. it says that it doesn't have anything to do with your admission decision, but in fact it does. they probably just want to surprise you at the reception (they'll tell you that u got in).

btw, not all addmitted applicants get this invitation. so if u didnt get one, don't panick

wait so you're saying if i go to this reception, they will inform me that i have been accepted?

yeah, i went to the reception last year. then at the beginning of the program they just told us that we all had been accepted

Does UCSB have Regents in addition to Chancellors?

so what kind of things do they tell you about there? i'm trying to decide if i want to go, so i'm wondering if it's worthwhile.

some people thought it was worthwhile. but i thought it was too long and boring. they let you ask them questions about majors, housing, etc, basically anything you have questions about. there were like three information sessions or something (one was related to your college/majors/studies, another session was housing, i dont even the remember the last one). it lasted a couple of hours. my stepdad nearly fell asleep lol. we decided to leave before the whole program ended. they had free cookies tho. lol. and i got free pens and pencils. had i known what it was gonna be like i wouldn't have gone though. it was a waste of time to me. all that info could be found on the school's websites and stuff.

So, if we get the email, we are in?

When they announced, did everyone get really excited last year?

I am going to the one in San Jose, sounds pretty cool (the Fairmont)

Does anyone know approximately what percentage of admitted students get this invite

^i think it's just a small percentage. maybe like 10-15% or something, maybe even less.

@thinkingofu: i dont remember, sorry.

i went to the San Jose one last year =D. people got kind of excited, but i think some of them already knew it beforehand. there was a long round of applause. our parents wouldn't stop clapping lol.

looks like they send out the email early this year. i just checked my email archive, i got the email on march 1st, 2008. here's the beginning of it:

"Hello Nicha,
In the past few days, you should have received an invitation to the upcoming UC Santa Barbara Chancellor’s Receptions that will be held in March."

maybe they decided to only send out the invite electronically this year to save resources lol?

if u got this email with the info the same as on this page http://www.sa.ucsb.edu/rsvp/incs/Chancellor's%20Reception%20FAQ%20for%20website.pdf then yeah u'r in. it seems like not all students can login to the rsvp page

Thanks Nicha for the info, I'm guessing you are at UCSB?

yeah lol xD

my personal statement was awesome..I made sure it was because my SAT was so low. I got this invite. I ALSO got a UCLA supplement, where they want to know more about you so you can get in.

THESE were my stats
GPA: 4.1
SAT: 1740

i know, you guys are like "how is she not instant reject pile for UCLA?"
well my personal statements were awesome! and i want everyone here to realize its importance.

M D got one last year and was offered admission to the honors program.
