pinkerfloyd,
University of California grant is not the same as the Cal Grant, I think UC grant is coming from UC itself, and Cal grant is coming from the state government…
And I also found out that if you don’t receive Cal Grant, for example, in your case, then you will get a LOT of UC grant. On the other hand, if you are qualified for Cal Grant, then the amount of UC grant will be reduced.

Hopefully this means I’ll get a lot of Cal Grant. =/

If not, I’m sunk.

Neither my UCSB nor my UCI financial aid pages mention Cal Grant. Does this mean anything…?

Geminstar,
do you mean you leave your first three spot empty? I think it is OK to leave SB in the fourth college, but i will change it to the first space to be safe if i was you… LOL

I can see mine, its unofficial tho…

…

^ Lol, I don’t think anything would be normal for a person from a family of 7 who’s mother’s income exceeds $250,000, but they are paying for four other tuitions and for her business.

i didn’t get anything. Under parents total contribution it says: 49,967

■■■

Mine says “Blue and Gold” $4880.00??

^ are you freaking kidding me.

where are you guys finding this info?
When i click on “unofficial award letter” it just says

“Your initial 2011-2012 FAFSA was received by the federal processor on 2/25/2011”

i got my financial aid packages for uci and ucsb and ucsb says i have possible cal grant but uci has nothing of it. uci does give me a uc irvine grant for over 13k though. i just checked my friends uci package from last year and he got around 3kish in uc irvine grant and 10k from cal grant. maybe uci put both under uc irvine grant?

The Regents of the University of California and the State of California provide funding for UC Irvine Grant awards. The amount of your grant is based on demonstrated need and UCI awarding policies.

that is what is said if you click on uc irvine grant in the aid page.

I have to get about $8,000 in loans, but I made a mistake on my FASFA, so they have to change it. So the loan amount may be lower. I did get the full amount for the pell grant and cal grant though. I won’t know about my new award until July I believe, but I think I’m getting more grants, since I didn’t get the UC grant, etc. We’ll see and I’ll update later.

Keeping my fingers crossed :S

I feel really dumb for putting in the wrong information but I changed it and the university is aware of it. Bah. I think my work study is going to increase to $2000 and I’m still not sure what Blue & Gold is. I did see a little sticker that said I’m eligible for it. I currently have 14K in grants.

My EFC is 2564 BTW…

I got 18k in grants. 2k in work study and 7k in loans. Not mad at all. 14k in debt for college isn’t too bad.

EFC=0

No, I am not kidding. It says $4000.00 UC Grant and $4880.00 Blue and Gold. The rest is loans. Every other post I see says they do not have an entry on the award letter that says “Blue and Gold” it usually says UC grant or something else. Weird…

Mine specifically says:

Cal Grant - 11,124
Pell Grant - 5550
UC grant - 1920
Work study - 2000
Loans - 7100
Total aid: 27,694

EFC: 0

I dont understand why some people get more UC grant and some get more cal grant. I thought if you were awarded blue and gold it came from the Cal grant?

curious to just ask if any have ‘0’ for parents and student income?

^income or contribution? I have 0 for student and parent contribution.

I have 0 for EFC. I haven’t gotten my aid yet.

0 for income, not contribution.

Ella89:
Cal Grant is a set amount based on income and asset ceilings. It does not decrease like Pell Grant does in relation to EFC.

Blue&Gold is a promise that your systemwide fees will be met through a combination of grants and/or scholarships. Blue&Gold allows for any grants and scholarships you receive to be counted towards meeting its promise. As Cal Grant is specifically set up to meet systemwide fees as well, anyone with Cal Grant has Blue&Gold met, but Blue&Gold can be met with any combination of grants and/or scholarship monies.

Those without Cal Grant will likely have a higher UC Grant (especially if they qualify for the Blue&Gold promise).
