I'm a senior in high school, and am still waiting on UCB. In the meantime I want to try to decide which would be the best choice if I don't get into Cal. I am going to be an Econ major and I have a Regent's Scholarship to UCSB and just regular admissions to Davis. Should I take the scholarship and go to UCSB or go to Davis? My final goal is law school, for which I want to hit up an Ivy League (thinking Columbia or Cornell Law). I want to go to an undergrad which would best prepare me for admission into a good law school.

Im going to ussb and i heard that the econ program there is really good, but not sure. my plans for after undergrad studies are very similar to yours. my major is philosophy.

it honestly depends on whether you want to be next to a farm or beach. both schools are academically equal.

My D has the same decision - the perks of the honors program at UCSB are great, though..

I don't know how well your family is off financially but either way a Regent's Scholarship is nothing to scoff at, well done by the way on being accepted to both.

In one aspect a scholarship can be a heavy determinate factor as to what school an individual should choose. However here you're not comparing an academically poor school with a good one. Both UCSB and UCD are very solid in their academics.

In the end it depends on where you would feel more comfortable and where you should best enjoy yourself. There are alot of other factors that go into this but the best way for you to truly know is to visit the schools in question and get a feel for the environment.

Good luck

Does Regents get you priority class Registration? That's a big perq for honors, and if you have that with Regents, take it and don't look back.
