UCSB reception honoring top applicants CLASS OF 2019

Do you really think the admissions would throw in the towel and be like YES YOURE ADMITTED. They want to keep it under wraps so when they reveal it youre suprised and pumped.

Did anybody go to the reception this afternoon in San Jose?

To the people who say that out-of-state applicants who receive an invitation are not guaranteed acceptance, the receptions in D.C. and NY are on March 21st and 22nd. That is a few days after the notification of March 16th. I don’t think they would make you attend a reception to a school you got rejected to, after you were notified.

I’m from NY, received an invitation. I’m not trying to assert anything, I’m just speculating, hoping for the best.

@lolprobablynot‌ the reception in San Jose is tomorrow, March 8th. I will be there, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

I’ll be at the SJ reception tomorrow!

If any of you are going to the San Jose reception today please tell us how it goes. I’m attending the one next week but I’d like to know what goes down.:slight_smile:

It just ended! Everyone invited to the major is accepted to UCSB with the major of their choice. They had a general introduction, video, and Q&A session and then we branhed off into our own colleges.

Thanks for the update. The reception was filled before we received our invite in the mail.

@Baystudent Was this for the San Jose reception?

@word1238 oops, my mistake! How was the reception? Were admissions announced?

FYI, at the engineering “break-out” session at the San Jose reception, they said everyone invited was accepted to their first choice majors.

It was (in their own words) mostly a recruiting trip. It was quite long, and most of the questions were pretty boring and standard. I did find the chancellor and the faculty rep from CS quite funny and interesting.

Yup! The reception really made SB seem like a friendly and very appealing school, lol. The location and environment just both seem so ideal.

i’m excited to go to the LA one! Thanks for the update

It was today actually. I took my daughter. They had the applicants stand and congratulate them for their achievements and also to let them know they have been admitted.

The reception was quite interesting (they had really good food too)! I actually didn’t RSVP in time, but I showed them my invitation card and they let me in.

if you don’t have the card, you just have to have your ID/ perm number right? Cuz I accidentally threw it away lol… I have the email tho ;0

Were all Regents Scholars supposed to be invited to these events?

Does UCSB tend to give out more Regents than other UCs?
It seemed like many of my son’s friends got it comparing to others.

@StevenToCollege‌

I would assume UCSB Regents has a lower yield rate than UCB, LA, and SD.

Many regents scholars at SB are most likely also cross admits to these three, and in many cases their higher academic reputation would sway students even if they weren’t getting the scholarship money/privileges.

I also assume all Berkeley/LA regents scholars are also getting it at SB, lowering the yield.

@QwertyuiopPro

That makes sense for higher ranking UCs such as UCB, UCLA, and UCSD.
But how about UC Irvine? My original question was actually geared more toward UCI.
