UCSC admission cancellation

Hi everyone please help if anybody had a same situation. We are informed today that my son's admission has been cancelled because they haven't received the transcripts though we applied for it on time and it was sent before the deadline but to another department. I got so panicked today. They say we can appeal and we will but anybody had a same experience who can help us or give us hope until then. I am so shocked and don't know what to do please help me I can't even think. Does the appeal help? please...

If what you say is true regarding the transcript mishap and them being sent to the wrong department, I think your son will be okay. Assuming everything else with his application is alright and accurate, your appeal will definitely be extremely beneficial.

After you appeal, I would think everything would be reversed and the cancellation of your admission would be negated.

If your whole situation was merely what you stated in your post, I wouldn’t panic.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response. Everything I said is true. The engineering department has their official transcript which he was accepted to so the admission doesn’t have it. Everything else was fine. I really appreciate your words. It comforts me a lot. I couldn’t sleep a wink since yesterday. We will send the appeal Monday. Again thank you and I appreciate if u have information on what on appeal may help us.

Does UCSC give admissions officers to accepted transfer students? If so, I’d call him/her-or the admissions office if your son doesn’t have an admissions officer-and inform them that you sent the appeal and that UCSC actually did receive the transcript, but that it went to the wrong department. I imagine you’ll be fine.

thank you so much for time to reply. I really appreciate it. We are going to fly there and deliver the appeal directly to them . We got all the evidences that shows the transcripts sent on time. I don’t know how long we can wait to get an answer. I am afraid of losing the housing and those stuff. Did you have a similar situation? You don’t know how much your words could help me.

I had this happen at Berkeley last year, was kinda terrifying. The worst part was, my transcripts really were sent a day after the deadline, since I was transferring in from a quarter system and classes ended really late. It’s a terrible feeling to check your email and see a notice stating that your admission is about to be cancelled. :x

I was a panicky mess, so didn’t handle the situation too clearly, but I immediately emailed the admissions people a copy of the transcript receipt and an unofficial copy of my winter/spring grades… and the official transcript showed up a day or two later and the matter was cleared up pretty easily after that. I think so long as you prove that you tried to get it there on time (and get them the transcript ASAP) you’ll be okay.

Good luck!

thank you sop much this helped me a lot. I appreciate your help. We will email too.

If you do fly out just to deliver the appeal, at least make a vacation out of it or something! I know you’re feeling panicked and want to do everything in your power to make sure the appeal goes through, but sending the appeal in a way that doesn’t require you to pay for a flight to Santa Cruz is perfectly fine. I’m transferring out of UCSC to UCB and, while my situation isn’t exactly the same, UCSC sent my letter of reciprocity-which is an incredibly important document for my transfer-and UCB never received it, so the admissions office sent me an email saying my admission would be revoked if they didn’t receive my letter. After contacting my admissions officer, he realized that they did receive the letter about a month ago, well before the deadline.

In any case, I learned one very important, and obvious, thing during the process: the school does not want to revoke your admission. In fact, they want you there. So, don’t worry, go ahead and send in the appeal; I’m sure you’ll be fine, especially because the school itself has your son’s transcript already! If you do fly out to Santa Cruz, make sure to check out the area and enjoy everything it has to offer!
