@hc1996, that’s the exact message I see. I wonder if it implies that you are on the waitlist for the major you apply for.
so,
@TimHsu001 and @byhisgrace, since you guys seem to know exactly what you are waitlisted for, could you share with us what your applications say?
thanks.

@hc1996, I CALLED THIS MORNING. And I asked why I got waitlisted. And they gave me the generic “many qualified applicants” speech, so somehow I don’t think it helps much. :(

@jackson61 alright, thanks for the info!

Waitlisted -.- 3.8 UC gpa 2040 sat

Waitlist - 3,862 waitlist offers went out; 1,212 students opted in; none were admitted.
Stats on the wait list from last year per Ms. Sun

Does anyone know how they decide whether to wait list you versus accept you into your alternate major? S wait listed for Chem E. His alternate major was physics.

I believe they make your admission decision before determining your major.

How many of you guys are opting in? How are you doing on your 200 word prompt? :)

The waitlist situation is different every year. My advice is to opt in if you really think you want to go there. Spend some time on their website and/or take a tour if you haven’t all ready. The problem with waitlists is that you put your “college path” on hold emotionally. National Decision Day is May 1 and if you hold out for a wait list, you won’t know by then. I recommend you decide on one of your acceptances and RUN with it. Get excited! Start planning! Be focused! IF, and only IF you come off a waitlist, you can re-evaluate. But don’t wait for it. I personally know kids in my small town who come off TOP UC waitlists every year including UCSD, UCLA and UCD. But, don’t wait around. Move forward!

I’m opting in, and writing the appeal essay right now! I didn’t realize I could do both!

It is worth opting in if you want to attend. My son isn’t going to, but he applied not knowing where he might get in, and got in other places he prefers. Last year UCSB let in about 28% of their waitlist, but the year before that, let in none. So it is worth it.

Good luck!
