UCSD Class of 2020 Discussion

@gtownhopeful2016 What exactly were your stats? I heard that this dinner is somewhat exclusive, based on past years (not sure tho).

@gtownhopeful2016 All I know for a fact is that I will indeed be running down to my mailbox at 2 (mailman is always there then) and will be ruffling through every little piece of paper (maybe I’ll find the “golden ticket/postcard”).

2000 SAT
30 ACT
1st in class of like 200
It came in a black envelope and I thought it was a rejection at first because it was so thin.

I received a call from a number with an 858 area code on Wednesday, and they just told me I was admitted! The caller said that they were going to send more info in a couple weeks and told me about Triton Day :slight_smile:

*********For everyone that was accepted, please comment stats here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19362377#Comment_19362377

@gtownhopeful2016 Awesome! Thx :slight_smile:

I got a call! I also missed it so I called it back and then they missed it then they called me back and I picked up lol

I feel so demanding, but I’m too curious to not ask this of everyone (apology in advance): If you guys got a call (even if you missed it), please leave some of your stats below (UC GPA, SAT/ACT, Race, Gender, Major, and ECs).

Info from last year----

In regards to the phone calls. More people DO NOT get calls… PLEASE DO NOT let this discourage you. In fact of all my friends waiting for a call, exactly ZERO received one… even the URMs. So do not let this add to the anxiety of the college app season.

That being said, some of my friends got waitlisted (they increased people on the waitlist). If you are in engineering, cs or biology consider that people applying for these majors have very high GPA’s and ACT/SAT scores. You are competing with the best and most people have higher than the UCSD “average”. I was surprised that some of my friends with incredible grades and scores with lots of AP did not get in initially. However, a number of them were eventually offered admission. So please know that this may be a strong possibility as well. SO know if your status says waitlisted you still have a chance!

UCSD offers admission on many factors and you CAN NOT know your chances. Don’t have someone tell you what your chance is. They do not know any better.

Please also know they have to offer admission to out of state and international students (Who Pay More) in order to meet the budget. So if you are from California, your stats may have to be significantly higher than someone from out of state. Do not compare yourself to others who post on this forum for this reason alone.

I remember how stressful it was waiting. Just take a deep breath and know there is a perfect school for you all. Hopefully UCSD… but if not there is another perfect school for you. A few of my friends ended up at USC and Cal Poly among others.

Best wishes everyone!

@GirlinaTwirly actually UCSD doesn’t accept by major. If you apply for an impacted major and are not offered admission to said major, you are allocated either your second choice major or accepted undeclared. What major you apply for has no bearing on admission to UCSD itself.

Lets assume that someone gets in to UCSD for undeclared, but not into their first choice major (the major is very impacted). Is it safe to take the risk and attend and switch to the first choice major?

Got a letter in the mail today saying I was invited to a reception event for admitted students. Perhaps everyone who got the email about it has already been “admitted”?

@786Bill You did not receive a phone call?

talking about unknown caller ID I remember getting a call March 2 but I didn’t bother picking up and didnt know who it was
Oh well it is what it is if I don’t go to ucsd I have ucb

@Atim10 I did not

@786Bill do you live in the SD area?

@jackisawesome @t19305

I got one with no caller ID around 6-7 pm PST yesterday and it’s driving me nuts that I didn’t pick it up… :frowning:

It’s not like I can check nor call back!!

Yes that is true perhaps I wasn’t quite clear there! From my own personal experience, those I know at UCSD with those majors had a higher gpa/test scores than the average. And some of my friends who did not get in initially last year also did. I think it is just the nature of who is applying. But remember the UC calculated gpa and high school gpa are also different. But you need to remember they look at a lot more! And although not impossible, transferring into any engineering(all impacted) from undeclared can be difficult.

Yea, I think the worst part of getting into a university is getting in only to find out you get in as undeclared…

@treehugger505 I am not from the SD area but the reception event takes place in LA so it is fairly close to me
