UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@skyinthesky Im a comm major as well! At least UCSB supposedly lets us know Tuesday… I just need some piece of mind preferably from UCSD. Maybe Monday? haha

@sleepychickens yes UCSB is Tuesday, it has been confirmed for a few weeks now. It could be Monday! It could be any day as far as we know

portal is still the same, maybe next week :frowning:

Do you guys think if someone withdraws their application they’ll take someone else in that was going to be a reject? Or are all decisions complete even if someone withdraws

@biochembbs9 I’m not sure, I would assume it has to do with your stats though and they would probably give away positions to borderline students and people who opt for the waitlist first. If someone was applying for engineering and had like a 2.5 GPA then obviously no, but you can always call admissions.

@biochembbs9 I am not entirely sure, but at this point if someone withdraws who was set to be accepted, it might go to someone on a waitlist. I am not sure though

@biochembbs9 worst case scenario you can always appeal and see how it goes. If you want to get an idea of what gpa range was accepted for your major and alt major take a look here https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
Hope you hear good news!

Oh I’m saying it because my bf has a 3.9 for bio and applied but he wants to go to SB with me. So if he gets in, he wanted to withdraw his application front SD to give somebody else a shot who really wants it

Ok my bets are on next Friday… I hate this wait even more now that I know all the freshman already heard

@sleepychickens No, I don’t know for 100%. I went through this last year and am a current UCSD student. So I know how it went last year. Just because no one on here heard yesterday along with the freshman doesn’t mean no transfers got a decision yesterday… People need to remember that the people here are an extremely small percent of the 18,000-19,000 transfers that are waiting to hear. So probably some transfers did already hear a decision but not on this forum. I’m not sure what their deal is with the two batch release but thats just how it’s gone the last few years that I know of…

So just try to relax until late April. I know it totally sucks. This time last year I was a mess waiting.

@blackonyx but usually when UCSD posts it congratulations on twitter it says like class of 2021 and 2019, this year it just said 2022. Also, I have a group of friends at school who also applied (all non-capped majors except one) and no one has heard. I have been on every possible form of social media and it seems like no transfers have heard. Considering how different things have been this year they might do some transfer acceptances next week

Does anybody care to do the chancing thing anymore? I remember seeing it when I left high school but I’m now a transfer and going through this all over again.

@userunidentified People still do the chance thing. Although I’d say its easier to chance yourself nowadays. The UC’s release the transfer acceptance rates by major, including the 25-75 percentile GPA range.

https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

So you can type in the major you are and select the campus to gauge yourself.

Dang, this looks like a reach for me then, I have a 3.27 for mechanical engineering, gpa range was 3.63-4.00. What does this mean then, does this mean that there’s absolutely no chance?

@userunidentified I hate to say it but its probably going to be luck if you get in due to the fact that you are far under the 25th percentile. Do you have all the prerequisites done? Impacted majors are just really hard to get into, especially at competitive universities. Did you apply to a non-impacted major as your alternate? I wouldn’t say theres no chance, but you might want to look into other schools as well. If you don’t get in and you really want to go you can always appeal, theres no guarantee you’ll get in but it doesn’t hurt.

@userunidentified The range is from the 25th to the 75th percentile. If I understand correctly, this means 25% have less than or equal to a 3.63 and that the top 25% (at least) or more have a 4.00. There is still a chance that you’ll be a part of that 25% with less than a 3.63 GPA. They don’t just look at your grades; don’t lose hope but keep a backup in mind. Admissions can be really unpredictable sometimes. 4.00s will and have been rejected just like 3.00s (their general transfer minimum) might be accepted. I’m really nervous too. You’re not alone.

Yeah I should have all of them done by the end of this semester, I even have a couple recommended courses under my belt, one of which I’m completing this semester (statics) and the other was a programming class, I have all the math except the one I’m doing now and one more physics to complete which I’m also doing right now. My alternate major was still capped, Applied Math (just applied, not applied science). I got the tag for riverside but still this is pretty much my number one school.

Anybody else applying from OOS 4-year? I’m a cali resident and I’m comfortably within GPA range for my alternate major (Int. Economics) which is also uncapped, but I’m still worried because I’m not from a CC.

@Ssamus Its harder for you to get in because you’re not CCC, and they prioritize us, are you a UC, or private? You can still get in, but you have to be more outstanding application wise from what I’ve heard, to get in. GPA is big though, so you have a good shot I’d say.
