UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

Yeah I know its harder, I just don’t know exactly how hard. I’m coming from Arizona State, but my residency is in California and I graduated from a California HS. I also know they take UCs, then CSUs, then private Cal unis before they’d take an OOS 4 year, but I’m holding out hope.

Does anyone know when we’ll hear back for admission decisions??

@janice4527 No one knows, we’re all just guessing maybe next week, for sure by end of April.

Yeah I read that also. It only sorts by CCCs and all others unfortunately, but my major had a particularly high acceptance rate and low GPA range, so I don’t think there are really any accurate statistics for non CC’s. I guess I’m just looking for random anecdotes to keep me going for a few more weeks .

Ah, all I can say is good luck, we all need it lol

@Ssamus Yeah its definitely harder applying from a 4 year, especially since you don’t know for sure if all of your classes are transferrable as UC classes. There might be some forums on here about OOS transfers to UC or you can look to Reddit. But I remember reading that like 90+% or so of transfers are from a CCC. I don’t think it makes a difference that you are a CA resident and went to school here. But you did everything you could and I assume you gave it your best shot so all we can do is wait. Did you apply to any privates like USD or LMU or OXY?

@sleepychickens I only applied to UCSD because it’s about 15 minutes away from my home. I know they do kind of make an effort to take California residents, but it may not apply to OOS applicants.

Hey everybody! Transfer from last year here, just making myself available for any questions or just random information you may want to know! A little bit of myself, I’ve changed my major a couple times, kinda sucks cause it forces me to stay here longer, but I get to do what I want to now (kind of)! I’m currently Nanoengineering with a focus in Mechanical engineering. I’m also going to be an RA at the Village this coming year (YOUR year C: )!

I’ll do my best to help make this a little less stressful than it already is!

@Hikachu21 Hey! Thank you for coming back and giving us some insight. I’ve heard finding on-campus housing can be difficult at other UC’s (UCLA and Berkeley) and I was wondering if UCSD also had a shortage of on-campus housing. Do you know if transfer students can generally get on-campus housing during their 2 years at the University?

Hey @Hikachu21 can you change your major as a transfer student? Also can you double major?

Heyyy guyyys!!!
So basically I was on the Triton Day website trying to figure out the date and wondering if decisions would be released before then so I could attend and I ended up trying to register and surprisingly it let me!!

Idk if this means anything at all or if it’s just another glitch but can someone else try registering and let me know if the request goes through?

I also got a conformation email that says :
"Watch the mail for your admit packet, which contains your Triton Day badge. Pick up your lanyard from the welcome booths on Triton Day.

A few days before the event, we will email you updates and final parking instructions.

We can’t wait to see you on campus!"

Let me know if anyone else is getting this!!

^^^ Update. I’m thinking it’s just a glitch because there’s a separate Transfer Triton Day (I didn’t know) so idk anymore…

@lovelei I hate to break it to you but they let everyone apply to the triton day, there is a gold card that will come in the admissions packet that is required to get into the event. Also that one is just for freshman

@skyinthesky yeah that’s what I was thinking too… oh well it was nice while it lasted

@lovelei I saw this on the freshman thread and it was a false alarm

You can double major but often you’ll add another year or so on top of your original projected graduation year. It might depend on what you want to double major in. I tried with something within the same area/field and I was told by my counselor that it would add a year and a half at the least for mine.

We had a huge problem with housing last year, lmao. I guess more people opted to stay on campus for this school year than they expected and there was a severe shortage for transfers. I think most transfers were given housing but some were put in freshman or graduate housing, and then they were forced to move at the end of the fall quarter to new housing (this was for students in grad housing because I’m pretty sure they were tearing them down to rebuild). Most transfers did get into the Village but it was such a mess… I expect it’ll be somewhat better this year but dont count on not having some similar difficulties. It might be cheaper to live off campus, however.

@thinkweism I guess we’re all going to be packed like sardines in triples that are converted doubles haha

Damn I guess the UC’s have some serious housing issues

So, early decisions maybe this Friday? :frowning: I wish we knew

honestly I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t have the time to worry about when admissions are coming out. I have to focus on school and the final stretch- but like I really hope they release decisions soon because this waiting is torture.
