UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@skyinthesky Damn, where do you get all these sources, its like your an encyclopedia of sources on UC admissions lol, not that that’s a bad thing, I’m impressed tbh.

Also it is late march, so that means since this friday is the last “late march” hopefully some come out, and hopefully all of ours on this thread is in that bunch, may be too much to ask for though

UCSD could mess with us just like before and mean March 30th. Though, I still hope we can see a change this Friday.

@hailey5799 I just do a lot of research! @AdultSwimFan is right because the last day of March is a Friday. I guess we will have to see this Friday if anyone’s portals start changing/people get accepted.

@AdultSwimFan I’m not even religious but I swear to God if UCSD messes with us again… I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I will silently internally be cursing them, hopefully Karma will hear my pleas. So they better not mess with me! Lol

@hailey5799 same LOL. i want my decision quickly but also… sigh

Every time I hear an email notification on my computer I freak out thinking its from UCSD admissions omg

Same^^ That or ONE of them came out, I just need ONE decision to come back and I’ll calm tf down. ONE decisions- preferably an acceptance is not that hard to ask for!

Hey guys, if any of you are psych majors or know about this, please let me know. But for psych, you only need 3 courses to fulfill prereqs right? I’ve been modeling my couseload for Cal and LA, so I didn’t look into UCSD too much. But I was pleasantly surprised today cuz I read that you only need three courses to fulfill the requirements, I thought you needed way more.

They have to notify half us just like UCSB. They had two extra weeks so they must have reviewed a couple more applicants than last year’s. Right?

@AdultSwimFan I doubt it will be half, from the last few years people say that the top 30% of applicants hear early. I am not sure how accurate this info is, but I think that if we hear early it will likely be 1. the top applicants and 2. probably the top 20-30%

hey friends. I’m waiting to hear back from ucsd also and the stress is killling meeeeeeeeee. Does anyone have an idea for when they are going to send the status out? I’m also waiting to hear back from chapman and ucla. :frowning:

@ericbadmon I was a psych major back when I entered in fall so I can help. It depends what you satisfied with IGETC

This link should help, click on with degree or concentration you are doing and it lays out the lower division requirements nicely. https://psychology.ucsd.edu/undergraduate-program/majors-effective-fall-2015/index.html

Even if you have IGETC completed, all those LD requirements HAVE to be completed. Although you are allowed to finish those up while starting upper division course work. I am not sure where you read you only need three courses.

@blackonyx got it directly from the assist.org page and ucsd’s website.
“Transfer students wishing to declare a Psychology major must complete the equivalent of 3 COURSES prior to transfer. These courses may be selected from a number of categories, but there are limits to how many courses can come from each category:”
I am talking about the requirements needed to transfer, not to declare the major. Maybe things have changed since your link? Your’s says 2015, and from what I understand, UCSD didn’t even care about prereq completion for psych until fall 2017, as that’s what is says on the assist.org page.

@blackonyx it’s a bit confusing cuz it’s different on the assist.org page and the website. On the website, it says just 3
http://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfer/transfer-major-preparation.html

But on the assist.org page, it has categories and you pick from each. I’m assuming you have to pick from each and have more than three total like you’re saying

@samiiiiiii im assuming most should be sent out before the 14th of April because thats when triton day is

What are the chances of getting accepted for UCSD econ if you haven’t done one pre-requisite and it’s not even in progress lol?

@ericbadmon @blackonyx I’m also applying as psychology without any specialization, but they didn’t let us differentiate between a b.s or b.a… But anyways Eric you’re right you only need 3 courses, I spoke to a uc admissions officer and she mentioned that it is in fact 3 courses, you can choose 3 courses from the first category and be done like that, or choose up to 2 from another category and 1 from another. She said that those are required to apply for the major, but she was basically hinting at the fact that people applying for that same major who completed more courses that are required for the entirety of the lower division courses are essentially “more competitive” which would factor into the course patterns and major preparation aspects of getting accepted if that makes sense. Luckily I did all that is on assist except for the 1 computer science course but I mean it isn’t even required to apply. I hope you got that that please ask questions if you didn’t :]

Hey guys! Quick question here. My major GPA by the fall quarter where I did the transfer academic update was a 2.88. On the website, for Computer Science, they simply stated: “3.0 cumulative GPA in prerequisite courses”. However, on Assist.org, they said: “Junior-level applicants who satisfactorily complete course requirements with a
cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in required courses will be given preference for
admission”.

PREFERENCE for admission. Does that mean it isn’t necessarily mandatory to have a 3.0 major GPA but is simply highly recommended?

@Princetonian9 thank you for the info! I see now. So you’re saying you need at least 3 to be considered, but it helps you case to have as much as possible. I have four done with IGETC and a 4.0 GPA, hope that is good enough for me to get accepted
I really appreciate the input, and hope that you get in. When it comes to major prep you’re certainly a very competitive candidate!

@choukevin probably no chance tbh. Econ is a capped major this upcoming year so it’s going to be difficult to get in even with all prereqs satisfied.
