@choukevin , @BBoy99 on assist (and ucsd website) it says the only required courses for econ are econ 1, econ 2, and calc 1 and 2. Calc 3 is recommended but not required. I applied as econ/management science
I should probably learn to read the paragraphs on assist lol, thanks @Skepta for the clarification i was mistaken. That’s good for all of us, i was thinking I didn’t have a chance by missing calc 3.
@choukevin lol I always used to skip the paragraphs on assist but then realized they contain the most important info. I kinda wish they told us for the required courses if we needed to have completed all of them before applying or if we could have 1 or 2 in progress. The only one il have in progress is calc 2.
@Skepta are you applying under econ for UCSD? If so, you should be fine with a 3.85 even if you have calc 2 IP
They say that Calc 3 for Econ isn’t required, but that you can’t start upper division without it done, but they say that only calc 1, calc 2, and micro/macroecon are required for admission. Probs those that have Calc 3 done will get preference, but outside of that you all still have a good shot even if you don’t have calc 3 done, if you have high GPAs.
@SmartJarhead it’s pretty laid back and quiet here on campus. UCSD isn’t an activist campus like other UC schools, so you’ll only really see a lot going on on library walk. the stigma of UCSD is that it’s “socially dead” but that’s totally untrue. There’s lots to do here, and plenty to do in SD. you’ll meet a lot of cool people here who are serious about their education. I think UCSD is more transfer friendly than other schools, but the transition here was very difficult because of the rigor and coming from a semester system into the quarter system. You essentially have to hit the ground running and the classes here are significantly harder than CC coursework. It’s very overwhelming and I’m still getting used to it. Grade deflation here isn’t too terrible, compared to other schools. UCSD doesn’t have the cutthroat atmosphere as, say, Berkeley, so grade deflation isn’t a serious problem here.
@BlueDog457 I completed a lot of pre-requisites from my CC that I transferred from, so it only tacked on an extra quarter. I take about 16-18 per quarter, but I am not totally head-set on completing both minors and may drop the CS one and just take a few classes to get the programming experience I need. I’ll be graduating June of 2019
@gonewiththeair It’s difficult to get into upper division CSE courses here if you are NOT a CSE major. The CSE major here is very competitive and impacted. Because it’s capped, they close off certain classes so that the majors can get the classes first. If there’s still room, they open it up to others. Lower division courses here in the CSE department are a tad easier to get into.
Thank you for applying to UC San Diego. We are currently reviewing applications for fall 2018.
We will post application decisions here by the end of April.
My portal says this not sure if others have a different message displayed
Same. I believe none of the transfers have heard anything so far.
Its so unfortunate they’re doing something different this year… they have been releasing that small batch around the same time for years… who knows maybe they’ll still do a rolling kind of thing but release more earlier
@itsromeosuckaa from ur response UCSD seems like the ideal school! It’s been my number 1 choice, hopefully I get in. Do you think the student experience is significantly different based on what college you get put in?
@itsromeosuckaa Thank you for your response! Also, how difficult is it to get on campus housing for transfers?
@itsromeosuckaa do you remember when you heard back from sd last year?
I did some digging from the 2017 UCSD transfer thread. A very small batch, about 10% heard back on March 11th, however this batch was only students who applied to non-capped majors. 90% of acceptances came out on April 21st and 90% of rejections came out on April 25th. Also for the last few years UCSD has been really consistent with releasing transfer acceptances around April 20/21st.
@itsromeosuckaa thank you so much! Have you taken any upper doc CS courses yet?
I’m assuming I’m most likely not getting in because of the 4 pre reqs for Econ iv completed 2 and still have the other 2 in progress.
@SmartJarhead admitted transfers who meet all housing app deadlines are guaranteed two years of on campus housing. Most of these can find space at The Village on a first come first serve basis
@skepta Yeah but I doubt that anybody heard anything yet. It seems like UCSD is doing something different this year. Maybe, they’re becoming like how UCLA and Berkley release their decisions. Kinda sucks though.
I am planning on transferring to UCSD in Fall’19. Do you guys think I have a chance if I complete IGETC and my major prep completely?
