@Cunningsloth because UC’s need to maintain their ranking in a way. for example, ucsd can’t just all of a sudden decide they want to be more competitive than Berkeley and only accept 4.0’s and have their average gpa admitted be 4.0 all of a sudden. Thats why people get accepted to UCLA but denied from UCSC- they were out of UCSC’s range. this doesn’t mean 4.0’s aren’t admitted though of course, gpa is only 1 factor they look at. not sure though i just heard about this before.
@flaminhaute if that’s true I will be very disappointed. I never got a straight answer when I toured the campus if they account for +'s and -'s in grades, but if they don’t then I run a 4.0 and this IS my top choice lol now I’m stressed
@srafiq you’re a one year transfer right? that’s probably why you got waitlisted. I met an applicant last year who got waitlisted because she applied after just one year, idk what happened but I’m sure you’ll get in if you apply again
Davis admissions rep today said “there’s no set time” too and it just came out, so maybe we’ll hear today?
@UCStudent951 But I also know people who went to UCSB that are raking in 100,000 a year after graduation…Like it really doesn’t matter dude. It might look and feel good to go there, but there’s no reason to think it’s necessary for success.
@Cunningsloth I wouldn’t worry, I’ve only ever heard of it online and never in official terms. Good luck!
Hi everyone! Current UCSD Cog sci major here, my boyfriend applied for transfer this year so I’m waiting too in a way I know it’s stressful but y’all should definitely take a deep breath! Also, the prestige debate is silliness. I chose to go to UCSD even with acceptances to Cal and LA. Not everything is about rankings! Finding what’s right for you is better. For the record, I’m in love with the UCSD Cogs department and wouldn’t change my decision. I’ve also taken some CSE classes and stuff. Feel free to ask me questions!
@srafiq I applied to Davis 2 years ago and was put on the waitlist. I had a 3.2 GPA and ~3.0 major GPA for English. I had no extracurriculars (except a part time job at an ice cream parlor) and had no real excuse for my poor grades. I think you have a good chance.
It does also depend on how many admits are SIR’ing to other schools.
@likeschowder UCSB is ranked pretty highly on the UC list. It’s phenomenal education prestige and beautiful school with 6 Nobel prize alumnus make it very high up there. So it’s no surprise graduates are making 6 figures:D
Admitted!
Cog sci
GPA: 3.64
IGETC: Done
Essay: 7/10
Good luck everybody!
.
@ragingstorm
Wait what!! UCSD is out???
@AyGrey Yea I think it’s often discounted as a party school. Like it is, but that makes it that much better. I also know their physics department is revered, which makes me all the happier that I’ll probably now be studying math there. Did you happen to apply?
@ragingstorm OH ****
mine is still under review
@UCStudent951 Room? I don’t know about that. Drinks? Definitely.
1 guy got admitted
not out yet for me
@likeschowder I not only applied but got in for Math to santa Barbara @UCStudent951 Dude we should totally room up. I’m most likely going to UC SB for math.
