@psychtransfer2018 https://■■■■■■■■■■■■/ucsd-early-calling-campaign/ you should read this! i know a couple people who were called as freshmen-- but there’s no record of UCSD doing this for transfers, so I found it weird that they would post it on their twitter today… since triton day already happened for freshmen too. maybe they’re getting volunteers for next year but doesn’t that sound like a stretch, getting people for an event that’s going to happen in a year (lol)? idk
@lovela wow! yea, i totally agree. it must be for us lol. but who knows when the campaign would begin. unless they plan on starting Monday? is UCSD your first choice?
@psychtransfer2018 i’m suppppper curious on what ucsd is thinking, they’re doing things very oddly this year so i wouldn’t be surprised if that was for us! (if anyone knows better, pls correct me) and UCSD is my second choice! much rather go to ucsd than ucsb, ucb because it’s closer to home… what about you?
@lovela yeah, that is odd. my first choice is ucla cause it’s closer to my home lol. yeah, I think I’d choose SD over SB. But the good thing is that I’ll at least have SB as a backup plan just in case
Plot twist: they release admission results June 1st
I logged in just to like that. @roohafzahmami101
So no SD decisions today
Been looking at this thread for a long time but have never posted before…
I saw the post regarding their twitter and decided to investigate…
confirmed they will be calling admitted transfer students begining April 23rd to Jun 1st.
Hey guys - hope some of this info will calm some nerves
I technically was accepted as a psych transfer for fall 2016, but I deferred enrollment for 1 year because I became a mommy.
In spring 2016 transfer triton day was still the beginning of may, but I received my acceptance mid-March. I went back to check the email just to be sure. I bring this up because - what happened a previous year is not for sure what will happen the next. I totally understand how frustrating the wait is!
No matter when acceptances are sent out, here are somethings to remember
1 you can accept admission to multiplr other schools if you are playing the waiting game! UC wants an answer in May, but Private schools (yale, nyu, standord…) dont send put acceptances until June! It is undrstood that when a student accepts admission it is not a blood oath or something. Make suew you grab a seat at a university and just cancel it as soon as you know you got into the school you want most (dont wait until september! End of june is fine.)
Financial aid package
When you are offered a pavkage it is Not your final offer, meaning most of the time they offer you more (never less.) some of you noticed that some universities didnt include all state/federal grants - they will update it later over the summer. Also, when I said yes to ucsd I was still waiting to hear from other schools. In June i got a seperate email saying since I accepted my essays and financial need was looked at again by scholarship panels and they offered me a full ride, no loans. So be a little patient for your final offer!
Loans… pick a school without loans if you can, but if yoh must take our a loan please consider only accepting subsidized loans (loans you start paying back 6 months after you graduate all schooling - so if you go to grad school you wait until later to make payments. Also they do not start collecting interest until after you graduate. Unsubsidized loans start accumulating interest immediately!) so take a closer looks at that offer
Do you need the best gpa to get in? And have taken all undergrad pre-teqs? No. O hot in with a 3.94 in psych and had Not taken all lower division prereqs. So now that I am here i have to still take computer science, philosphy of logic and a few others… but they can be pass/fail. If you get in somewhere and have not completed all prereqs take a look at what you need for that final degree, it might be more time than you are willing to commit.
When you look at ucsd - to graduate there are college requirements (muir, 6th… etc,) university requirements (diviersity class, history classes…,) and major requirements. If you are igetc certified you Only have to take the upper division “college” requirements specifically, even if you didnt take the exact classes required! If you are not igetc certified you will have to complete lower and upper division college requirements and depending on the college (aka warren…) you might not want to bother with it or try and take some of the classes over the summer! For my lower division psych units i have been doing most online at community college pass/fail and will just transfer them over.
Last thing - please dont get discouraged if you are on the waitlist! Many people pn the waitlist end up getting an offer. So accept a seat somewhere else and know you could still go to ucsd and cancel the other school later. Waitlisters get acceptance offers later in the summer as seats become available.
Breathe! It is almost over!
Well play UCSD!
So the decision gonna be anytime next week ?
@HuyDang The only concrete piece of evidence we have is the portal saying decisions will be posted by the end of April. So technically, it could be any time from now until 11:59pm April 30th.
dont get to hung over the calling campaign most of its just answering questions for admitted students after we have already gotten a decision but only a few select actually get called and told have been admitted that way
this forum has provided such moral support in these trying times
Is any current student willing to be a volunteer calling campaign? That might be helpful
Im going to transfer next year for CS. Does anybody know if its mandatory to take Physics or can I also take Chem. Since on assist it says chem is allowed.
@bomnd Here’s a link that will tell you all the mandatory classes for admission: http://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfer/transfer-major-preparation.html
I went and tried to sign up for the calling campaign and it asked for my calling availability. The options were Monday- Friday 4:30-8pm. It didn’t say a specific date, just those times, but from that I assume that they might be calling during those times next week! I signed up and haven’t received any info yet but can let you know if I do!
@paninilover is this for the week coming up ?
@Vaneeters It didn’t say, unfortunately. I’ll let you know when they contact me Also, SIRing for freshmen is usually due May 1st, so I wonder if it’s possible that we could be calling and trying to convince them. I hope it’s actually for transfers though!
Bless you @paninilover
