UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@bomnd Yes for UCSD you can take the chemistry sequence instead of the physics but I would really recommend you to take the physics because most of the other UC’s will want you to take the physics (UCLA, UCSB , etc…) and by doing so you will have more chances of getting accepted into more than one college. There’s no guarantee you’ll get into UCSD so try to satisfy the requirements for more than one school. I hope my comment makes sense. Good luck!

Did anyone else hear UCSD is using a lottery system to admit their CS majors?

if it costs 0.1 GPA for every entry, then sure.

Link or evidence?

@JUROD211 evidence or where did u hear that?

@JUROD211 The lottery system is used for non-transfer undeclared/non-engineering majors trying to switch into cse once they are already here as far as I know. Source: I go to ucsd. I haven’t heard it being used for transfer applicants or even freshman applicants when they are coming in. It’s possible but I hiiiigghhhly doubt it.

@JUROD211 the question I have, is if that major is in such a high demand, why doesn’t the school try to expand the program and try to accommodate for more students? I sure believe the school can maintain the integrity of the courses being offered and expand the student cap. Thoughts?

Do we find out if we got admitted today?

I mean, aside from paying near absurd price in tuition and large portion of it going to fund the retirement plan of the university employees, aren’t we all paying tuition/tax so that the education provided at the school is good and more people can benefit from that education?

@samiiiiiii no probably not the admissions office is closed today

when i went on it specifically said transfer student calling campaign Apirl 23 to June 1

@getRekted I was at celebrate UCI earlier and the professor giving an overview of the ICS Department said she heard that UCSD IS admitting CS students based on a lottery system this year.

@DocBrooklyn No UC sends out acceptances that far past April

@JUROD211 that’s not that reliable.

June first is the day you have to decide what school you’re going to lol

@Twenmi well that what is says…i took a screenshot of it

Do you guys think SD will release the same day as LA or before?

Did it ever happened in the past that the lottery was used?

Why is UCSD trying to run with the big dogs and release during the last week?

This thread is pretty exemplary of UCSD’s erroneous belief that they are up there with UCB and UCLA, while simultaneously trying to assert their dubious superiority over other second tier UCs like Irvine and Santa Barbara.

It’s turning me off to the school tbh.

@janice4527 I went to the Ucla CCCP Spring Academy and I heard people say that it is possible that Ucsd might release their decisions after Ucla.
