UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@chocstraw Seriously, I know it’s stupid that decisions aren’t out yet, but I wouldn’t take it as anything really about UCSD itself. You should focus on your department at UCSD instead, and your opinion on that, because that’s really who you’re going to interact most with, not admissions. Also, the fact that “better” schools release later is just altogether stupid. Don’t get me started about Berkeley’s superiority complex. I literally turned down my Berkeley offer because I didn’t like the way competition on campus pitted students against each other.

So yeah, sure it’s irritating, but isn’t it just as irritating that UCLA and Cal feel an entitlement to keep decisions from you longer because they’re higher ranked and just can?

It’s only right to take the school as a whole along with your prospective department. I’m saying that the complex that UCSD is known for is palpable even in this thread.

For 2017, UCLA received about 22k applicants to UCSD’s 18k. There’s evidence for the argument that UCLA and UCB take longer to release their applications because they have ~25% more to sift through. It’s reflective of their desirability.

At this point, I’m not really expecting to get an acceptance from here, I just mostly want to know already.

I understand that I don’t have the most competitive gpa or the best story. But whatever happens, where ever I end up, I’m going to do it to the fullest. So who cares if I don’t go here, I’ll make it work whenever I go.

@chocstraw What? Your first assumption as to why UCSD is releasing their decisions late is because they’re trying to “run with the big dogs” and “assert their dubious superiority over other second tier UCs”?

Calm down. It’s not that serious.

I got into sdsu and I’m still waiting to hear back from others school, but they want me to put in my acceptance by May 1. What do I do?

@samiiiiiii I have the same problem. I got into CSULA, and they are expecting an intent to register by May 1st :frowning:

@samiiiiiii If SDSU is a first choice for you, the aid is good, etc. you will have an easier time withdrawing an SIR than you will filing an SIR after the due date. You’ll have to eat the SIR fee, usually around $250. USC has a pretty late decision date of around May 31st, so people usually SIR to their second choice and then withdraw when they hear back.

If you’re waiting on UCSD or other UCs, it will almost definitely come out before May first. But you won’t have a lot of time to decide

@chocstraw I mean if you’re going to excuse UCLA and Cal for having more applicants normally. This year for transfer students UCSD had a record number apply and was second most applied to of the UC’s just below UCLA. We will all get our decisions soon. http://fox5sandiego.com/2017/12/14/ucsd-receives-record-number-of-applications-for-fall-2018/

same here @psychtransfer2018 i got into sf state, if i don’t get into ucsd I’m going to accept my admission offer while I wait to hear back from Davis since i got waitlisted. It’s only $100 and my mom offered to pay it lol. It’s a good choice to accept the admission offer so if something ends up happening you don’t end up without a college in the end

I totally get that it’s frustrating and super nerve wracking to wait with no concrete date for admissions. But I also believe the UC is a public institution doing the best they can with limited funding. And I don’t personally believe that they are trying to assert any kind of status or agenda by releasing dates at a certain time. They’re probably just doing there best with overwhelmingly more applicants each year, and potentially a mix of tradition/protocol from previous years.

Like someone else said you’ll never deal with admissions again… but damn has this year been different and extra stressful.

Sincerely,
a college counselor overly invested emotionally in his students (but also has been in your spot too)

I hope someone can answer this question for me. Why do UCs take nearly 5 months to come out with decisions? Many other schools I was considering had much later deadline and takes much less time to come to conclusion.

@mbruin92 completely agree. We’re all frustrated here but claiming that the school is doing it on purpose due to their arrogance is just plain excessive.

@janice4527 someone on the ucla thread told me that ucsd has historically released their decisions on the same day as la, except for last year. Tho idk if that’s true or not, I never bothered to look at it myself. It’s really hard to say atm cuz none of the schools that are left, with the exception of Cal, have stated a set release date

@samiiiiiii just wait. All regular decisions will be out before may.

@ericbadmon it’s true… everyone will know about every school in AT MOST, 9 days, but probably before Berkeley has confirmed (the 27th or 6 days). We’re at the end of a long stressful road now. Everyone have their drink of choice and put out postive vibes at this point! I’m super grateful for this forum and wish everyone well- any UC is a blessing of a state institution

Not sure if anyone posted this but UCSD made a countdown for transfer day… pretty neat despite the fact they’re not even releasing acceptances out yet lmao

I just wanted to share some information with you guys lol next Thursday April 26th, a representative from UCSD will be coming to my campus to answer questions for “new and admitted students” so I am pretty sure decisions will be out before then. Probably on Wednesday, same day as UCLA.

UCSD actually reads our essays I found out so they deserve to take their time.

Yea I agree with you that physics is a better choice but since I tok ap chem in high school I get to skip a class and also physics is way harder in my school and don’t want my gpa to drop

@OhWhatsHerName When I talked to the college admission counselor they said that the admission review process for UCSD isn’t holistic and that it is purely based on GPA, major prep, and IGETC. I really hope some how they do read essays. I hate how there isn’t a certain answer as to how they review ive gotten mixed answers.
