UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@Fhot112 I get my info from http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/quick-reference-2017.pdf page 41 but perhaps it’s changed this year.

@alliot
For transfer students, each of the UC campuses, not including Riverside and Merced, receive approximately 20,000 applicants each year. Also, the UC acceptance process is pretty extensive, at least in comparison to the CSU system. I’m waiting to hear back from several schools on the east coast currently. I applied last year and was admitted into Boston University as a transfer but couldn’t afford the $70,000 a year cost… Applications for BU were due on March 1 and I heard back in the first portion of the rolling decisions, which was the first week of April. However, Boston only received around 2-3 thousand applicants

@OhWhatsHerName Guess we will find out because it could be either idk who to trust ucsd reference guide or an official it could honestly go either way. Im really hoping they do read the essays and everything!

@alliot I’m not an expert on what goes on in admissions, but here’s what I think:
The TAU deadline isn’t until 1/31. There’s a lot of valuable information that goes into the TAU so idk if colleges can seriously assess their candidates until all the TAUs are in. So realistically, idk if they actually have 5 months
Also, I think there’s an added complexity cuz they’re public schools, and there’s been a lot of political pressure recently to accept more CCC California residents.
This is just my take tho and I’m far from being an expert so I could be completely wrong

I find the whole pressure to accept more CCC students a bit weird. Shouldn’t any college always accept the most qualified applicants regardless of where they come from?

At a public university, no.

Public universities, in our case University of California or even California State Universities, are supposed to benefit the Californian population because our taxes directly supports them. I think I remember reading that UC’s have gotten criticism for accepting more out of state students to get more funding.

@Cunningsloth I’m pretty sure it’s part of the UC master plan! And as @ayylmaoooo points out, our high taxes should entitle us to that much lol

Super helpful. Thanks bro!

@ayylmaoooo Yeah UCs have been criticized for accepting more and more OOS and international student. I’m not exactly sure how the UCs keep their statistics, but many international students go through CCC and then transfer out. Would this be registered as a CC student or international student? I happen to think that the UCs don’t honestly report that part, and the statistics is skewed in a way that the international students take up much more percentage of the student body than it is reported.

I really wish all UCs can sit down and come up with a single date for declaring their results (for both Freshman and Transfers). Just like the Ivy Day.
That will reduce the anxiety among the applicants significantly and consequently keep messages on forums like this to be more meaningful.
I am not dissing anyone for using this forum to vent their anxiety and get some support from fellow posters. My point is that there should not be a need to have all this anxiety if a single date has been decided and announced in advance.
It will also reduce the time that their staff has to spend answering phone calls about those of us who call about decision dates.
I think it will be a win-win for everyone.

…Or when they say that decisions will be released by the end of April, we could all automatically default to expecting to hear back at the end of April, relinquish the stress of anticipating anything prior, and be pleasantly surprised should we receive any answers before then.
They will release their decisions after thoroughly reviewing each application. By demanding that they release your decision before ready is ultimately asking them to spend less time reviewing the application.

Exhale. Exert patience. Soon you’ll have your dreaded answer.
In the meantime, go enjoy your life right now… as it is very soon going to change, one direction or another.

I don’t think that will ever happen because the middle/lower tier may think they can entice someone over with an earlier announcement. However I do think a set day at each is the civilized way to go.

Is it possible that the decision will come out tomorrow?

@toyJarM on what date did you get accepted? I’m curious if they’re slowly releasing them
