@Twenmi oh okay thanks so much!
@ericbadmon it’s worse because I’ve looked up on the data and from 1999, Californian residents made up 89% of the UC system, today it makes up only 77%. So yeah, a lot more out of state and internationals get accepted at a higher rate than Calif. residents, I believe. Slightly more than half of out of state and internationals made up the accepted class of 2021. Just think about that, UC schools which were made to serve californians, now serve less californians compared to non residents.
I’m guessing we’ll hear back anywhere from Wednesday to Friday. I don’t think they’ll release any later than Friday because of the wristbands for Triton Day. The Wednesday to Friday date range is pure speculation on my behalf but I think it’s pretty safe to say we’ll hear back by Friday evening.
@Cunningsloth When it comes to college, yes Californinans are lucky since the public school system is so great (although the cost of living is pretty crazy). But I wouldn’t exactly say that people from other states are “screwed” there are good public universities in nearly every state. It’s ultimately up to the individual to decide on what school to aim for. If a Texan resident aims for the UCs instead of the homegrown universities, I wouldn’t say that he got screwed, he just decided to aim for schools that aren’t in his state.
And plus the UCs are accepting plenty of internationals and OOS, probably more so than any other public universities (I didn’t research that just assuming this is the case) they just have to abide by laws that limit them
@ImJustaPerson wow that’s a pretty big increase. There’s a lot of money to be made on OOS and internationals. I bet if there weren’t any judicial powers limiting the schools OOS and internationals would probably be the majority at the upper tier UCs.
@ericbadmon with schools like UCD, UCSC, and UCI getting more competitive this year without any oversight I think California residents would be in a lot worse position. It’d get so extremely competitive just to get the UC title.
Here’s what I’m thinking at this point, if I don’t get in now I’m going to be a little be hurt by it for sure. But, where ever I end up next (most likely riverside), I’ll get a clean slate GPA wise and I’ll be able to try this again with UCSD for Grad school.
Every day that goes by on this thread makes me more and more nervous. I am p sure I’ll get in too, so I have no idea why. But this all sucks. Why do. wh. why are they doing this.
“We are currently reviewing applications for fall 2018.” ARE YOU THO. ARE YOU??!!
I feel your pain. In my case I’m a 100 percent average applicant so I just want closure at this point even if I don’t get in. I’m both an OOS student and a Cal resident, my GPA is below average overall but above average for my major, I have all my prereqs done but I don’t know if enough of my credits transfer, etc. I still don’t quite understand how it’s decided for people that come from 4 year universities considering they say your credits may transfer but there isn’t any indication on how it works or if there’s any follow up.
I’m so done with UCSD right now, they need to get there **** together, even UCLA has a relatively set date.
i predict admission notifications will come out monday.
@abcln123 I hope so
Dido ^
@userunidentified You get a clean start at the UCs but grad schools still look at your transcript from CC. Though they probably put more weight into the UC one, since it’s a 4-year and that where you’ll be taking upper divisions
@hailey5799 Before, I liked the idea of having a lot of schools release their decisions on the same week. But now that it’s actually happening, I hate how we’re all so anxiety-ridden cuz so much is happening this week. Having UCSD, UCLA, and Cal decisions all on the same week sounded nice, but in practice it’s kinda overwhelming lol
@ssamus if you are at a cal school you can check if your credits will transfer on assist.org
Im not. I go to school in AZ. But thanks.
@Ssamus ahhh yea that sucks m8
man i am SO over this waiting game… Next week is gonna be so wild. All of the UCs that i still have to hear back from are releasing… mmmmmmBOI
